Nikaia wird römisch; die Lex Pompeia

Im Jahr 75 v. Chr. starb der letzte bithynische Konig Nikomedes und vermachte sein Reich den Romern. Ostlich von Bithynien bestand damals das Konigreich Pontos (das Reich um das Schwarze Meer). Dort regierte der Romergegner Mithra-dates, der sein Geschlecht von den Groskonigen der Perser ableitete. Er beanspruchte Bithynien fur sich.

Anadolu'nun hemen hemen bütün eski şehirleri gibi, Bitinia'daki Nikaia, yani bugünkü Iznik, muntazam bir surette bayramlarını icra ederdi. Nikaia bugün küçük bir mahal olmasına rağmen Antikite devrinde gerek şaşaa ve gerekse zenginliği bakımından bir dünya şehri idi.

Ich bespreche abschliesend die Geschichte von der Grundung der Stadt Nikaia durch Dionysos, in der alte mythische Vorbilder verwendet worden sind. Ein kurzer Auszug ist erhalten in einem Referat uber das Geschichtswerk des Memnon von Herakleia, eine langere Darstellung in dem grosen epischen Gedicht des Non-nos von Panopolis.
