İznik şehrinin savunma sistemine ihtiyaç duymadığı Roma Barışı (MÖ 27-MÖ 180) döneminde, kente girişi simgeleyen anıtsal kapılar, kentin ana yol akslarının bitimine gelecek şekilde inşa edilmiştir (MS 78-79).
