Formaldehyde Residue in the Muscle of Nile Tilapia
Formaldehyde residues in muscle tissue were determined for Nile tilapia Tilapia niloticus which had been treated indefinitely with formalin at rates of 25 mg·I·1, and bath treatments of 125mg·l·1 for 1.5 h or 250 mg-1-1 for 1 h. In the indefinite treatment, formaldehyde in treated fish increased slightly from 48 to 72 h, and levels were back to normal

Abstract In teleost fishes, cortisol is the major corticoid and has both glucocorticoid and mineralocorticoid actions. However, how fish tissues discriminate between these distinct corticosteroid actions is unclear. In mammals, the major factors responsible for intracellular corticosteroid regulation are glucocorticoid receptors (grs) and the ...

Changes in the structure of the phytoplankton community in a Nile tilapia fishpond [PDF]
Abstract Aim Our objectives were to recognize species that can serve as biological descriptors and evaluate the changes in the phytoplankton community throughout the grow-out period of the Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus Linnaeus 1758) related to management practices and to limnological variables.

Abstract Environmental DNA (eDNA) biodiversity surveys have the power to transform the detection of species in natural environments, which is crucial for the conservation and management of freshwater, estuarine and marine environments. Globally, eDNA‐based analyses have increased significantly, with fishes being the most widely studied aquatic ...

Omnivory by planktivores stabilizes plankton dynamics, but may either promote or reduce algal biomass [PDF]
Classical models of phytoplankton–zooplankton interaction show that with nutrient enrichment such systems may abruptly shift from limit cycles to stable phytoplankton domination due to zooplankton predation by planktivorous fish.

Bony fish genomes: Status and gaps
Abstract Bony fish constitute an exceptionally species‐rich group of aquatic vertebrates, comprising more than 95% of all living fish. The adaptive processes on the diversity of environments they inhabit make them a highly diverse group from taxonomic, morphological and evolutionary standpoints.

Hybridization is a widely used breeding technique in fish species that enhances desirable traits in cultured species through heterosis. However, the mechanism by which hybrids alter gene expression to form heterosis remains unclear.
