Diseases resistance of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), blue tilapia (Oreochromis aureus) and their hybrid (female Nile tilapia×male blue tilapia) to Aeromonas sobria

Aquaculture, 2004
Abstract The resistance to disease caused by the Aeromonas sobria in three genotypes of tilapia, Nile tilapia ( Oreochromis niloticus ), blue tilapia ( Oreochromis aureus ) and their hybrid (female Nile tilapia×male blue tilapia) was studied . Based on comparison of median lethal dose (LD 50 ), functions of nonspecific immunity, including total ...

Nile Tilapia Fish Skin–Based Wound Dressing Improves Pain and Treatment-Related Costs of Superficial Partial-Thickness Burns: A Phase III Randomized Controlled Trial

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 2021
Background: In a phase II study comparing Nile tilapia fish skin to silver sulfadiazine cream for outpatient management of superficial partial-thickness burns, the fish skin decreased reepithelialization time (average reduction, 1.43 days), dressing ...

Identification and characterization of CD5 in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)

Developmental & Comparative Immunology, 2022
CD5 is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein acting as a pleiotropic functional receptor in the mammalian immune response system, mainly presents on the surface of cells associated with the immune system, and is essential for the classification of B cells. In this study, we identify a CD5 homologue in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus).

Nile Tilapia Oreochromis niloticus (L.)

2017
Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus (L.) is one of the most widely cultured and most widespread invasive fish species globally. It was the most common alien fish species in South China where it has successfully established populations in the major rivers, and became the dominant species in many sites.

Nile tilapia invades the Lake Malawi catchment

African Journal of Aquatic Science, 2013
The Lake Malawi/Nyasa catchment contains over 835 endemic cichlid fish species. This unique biodiversity has made it widely recognised as one of the world’s most significant freshwater ecosystems. Here we report the first occurrence records of two invasive tilapiines, Oreochromis niloticus and Oreochromis leucostictus, inside the Lake Malawi catchment.

Purification and Localization of Nitric Oxide Synthases from Hybrid Tilapia (Nile Tilapia × Mozambique Tilapia)

Journal of Aquatic Animal Health, 2007
Abstract The aims of this study were to purify and localize the nitric oxide synthases (NOSs) from hybrid tilapia (Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus × Mozambique tilapia O. mossambicus). The purification procedures involved affinity chromatography with a 2′, 5′-ADP-agarose 4B column and ion exchange with a diethylaminoethanol Bio-Gel A ...

A place preference test in the fish Nile tilapia

Journal of Experimental Animal Science, 2006
Abstract The Nile tilapia fish ( Oreochromis niloticus ) has a high potential to be used as a model in neuroscience studies. In the present study, the preference of the Nile tilapia between a gravel-enriched (GEE), a shelter-enriched (SEE) or a non-enriched (NEE) environment was determined, for developing a place preference model. Nile tilapia had an
