Metallurgical Effects of Niobium in Dual Phase Steel

open access: yesMetals, 2020
Dual phase (DP) steels are widely applied in today’s automotive body design. The favorable combination of strength and ductility in such steels is in first place related to the share of ferrite and martensite.

High Health Care Utilization Preceding Diagnosis With Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Although early diagnosis improves long‐term outcomes, patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) often experience prolonged, circuitous paths to diagnosis. To inform diagnostic improvement, we sought to characterize health care utilization in the year preceding diagnosis. Methods We identified 10,021 patients with an incident diagnosis

Effect of niobium and carbon on weld solidification cracking susceptibility of ferritic stainless steels

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Niobium is often added to welding consumables for ferritic stainless steels to improve properties, such as weld-decay resistance. However, its addition may increase solidification cracking susceptibility due to significant solidification segregation ...

Change of surface critical current in the surface superconductivity and mixed states of superconducting Niobium

open access: yes, 2016
A systematic study of irreversible magnetization was performed in bulk Niobium after different surface treatments. Starting with smooth surfaces and abrading them, a strong increase of the critical current is observed up an apparent limiting value.

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Hydrogen Reduction in MEP Niobium Studied by Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS)

open access: yesMetals, 2017
Niobium, as pure metal and alloying element, is used in a variety of applications, among them in nuclear industries. Niobium is incorporated into nuclear fission reactors due to its enormous strength and low density. Surface finishing of niobium is often

Model for initiation of quality factor degradation at high accelerating fields in superconducting radio-frequency cavities

open access: yes, 2010
A model for the onset of the reduction in SRF cavity quality factor, the so-called Q-drop, at high accelerating electric fields is presented. Breakdown of the surface barrier against magnetic flux penetration at the cavity equator is considered to be the

THE DETERMINATION OF NIOBIUM IN URANIUM-NIOBIUM ALLOYS [PDF]

open access: yes, 1956
Niobium is determined as the peroxy complex in concentrated sulfuric acid by photometric measurement at 360 m mu . Uranium interference is cancelled by using a solution of the sample for reference in the photometric measurement. The method covers the determination of niobium in uranium --niobium alloys made from pure melting stock.

Planar Solid‐State Nanopores Toward Scalable Nanofluidic Integration Based on CMOS Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present a scalable silicon‐based fabrication strategy for planar solid‐state nanopores to enable their integration with complex nanofluidic systems. Prototype devices demonstrate normal voltage‐current characteristics, good noise performance, and appreciable streaming currents. Our CMOS‐compatible fabrication process offers precise geometric control

Environmental Sustainability of Niobium Recycling: The Case of the Automotive Industry

open access: yesRecycling, 2019
The recycling of scrap is one of the common approaches aiming at reduction of mining-based production of critical metals and mitigation of their supply risk as well as processing-related environmental impact. The number of currently available end-of-life
