NEUTRON DIFFRACTION MEASUREMENTS IN EQUIATOMIC NiTi - ALLOYS

open access: yesLe Journal de Physique Colloques, 1982
Neutron diffraction spectrums of the different phases found in binary NiTi alloys are presented. From these measurements it is possible to separate the influence of precipitates and to differentiate between different proposed models for the martensitic structure. No extra peaks due to the R-phase are observed.

Advances in martensitic transformations in Cu-based shape memory alloys achieved by in situ neutron and synchrotron X-ray diffraction methods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This article deals with the application of several X-ray and neutron diffraction methods to investigate the mechanics of a stress induced martensitic transformation in Cu-based shape memory alloy polycrystals. It puts experimental results obtained by two

Micro-end milling of NiTi biomedical alloys, burr formation and phase transformation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper focuses on burr formation in micro-end milling of two Nickel-Titanium shape memory alloys (SMA), an austenitic and a martensitic NiTi. Phase transformation during machining was also examined. The experimental design approach was used to study

Brief Overview on Nitinol as Biomaterial

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2016
Shape memory alloys remember their shape due to thermoelastic martensitic phase transformation. These alloys have advantages in terms of large recoverable strain and these alloys can exert continuous force during use.

Electrolytic plasma polishing of NiTi alloy [PDF]

open access: yesMathematical Models in Engineering, 2021
Nitinol is widely used in the production of medical devices, especially the ones that are designed for minimally invasive treatment, such as stents to restore vascular patency, stent grafts to eliminate aneurysms, and cava filters to trap blood clots. One of the most important characteristics that determines the reliability of the functioning of such ...

Deformation and Fracture of Thin Sheets of Nitinol [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Nickel-Titanium (Nitinol) is a Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) that exhibits superelasticity (pseudoelasticity) and shape memory by a solid-solid state diffusion-less phase transformation.

Effect of Fe addition on the microstructure, transformation behaviour and superelasticity of NiTi alloys fabricated by laser powder bed fusion

open access: yesVirtual and Physical Prototyping, 2023
NiTi-Fe ternary shape memory alloys were produced by laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) using the pre-alloyed NiTi and elemental Fe powders. A large process window exists to fabricate dense NiTiFe0.3 and NiTiFe0.5 alloys, while severe cracks occur in the ...

The roles of residual martensite and plastic deformation in thermomechanically coupled functional degradation of nanocrystalline superelastic NiTi alloys

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
Residual martensite and plastic deformation are the culprits of functional degradation in NiTi alloys. However, their roles in thermomechanically coupled functional degradation of nanocrystalline superelastic NiTi alloys have not been investigated ...
