Cu-Ln (Ln = Gd, Eu, Sm) Dinuclear Complexes Based on Schiff Base o-van-en Ligand: Syntheses, Crystal Structures, and Magnetic Properties. [PDF]

open access: yesChemistry
Three new heterobimetallic complexes [CuCl(o‐van‐en)LnCl(H2O)3]Cl·C2H6O (Ln = Sm (1), Eu (2), Gd (3)), with the bicompartmental Schiff‐base ligand (o‐van‐en)2−, were synthesized using horizontal diffusion. Complexes 2 and 3 exhibit field‐supported slow magnetic relaxation, while complex 1 does not display AC activity.

Charge Makes a Difference: Molecular Ionic Bismuth Compounds

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 135, Issue 24, June 12, 2023., 2023
Charged molecular bismuth species encompass cationic and anionic complexes with organic and inorganic ligand spheres as well as ligand‐free molecular clusters. This review provides an overview of their syntheses, structures, and bonding modes. It outlines how the heavy metal bismuth, with its capability of forming non‐toxic compounds, can be understood

Investigation and Characterization of Nitrazapropane‐, Oxapropane‐ and Trinitrazaheptane‐Bridged Nitro Esters

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, Volume 26, Issue 47, December 13, 2023., 2023
Starting from a modified Bachmann procedure, which is commonly used for the synthesis of RDX and HMX, two new nitro esters were synthesized and investigated, 1,3‐dinitroxy‐2‐nitrazapropane and 1,7‐dinitroxy‐2,4,6‐trinitrazaheptane. Furthermore, the structural similar compound 1,3‐dinitroxy‐2‐oxapropane was obtained.

Weed control and weed biomass influenced first cutting forage accumulation and nutritive value of spring‐seeded alfalfa

open access: yesAgronomy Journal, Volume 115, Issue 6, Page 2979-2989, November/December 2023., 2023
Abstract Weeds can influence the economics of alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) production by reducing forage yield and nutritive value or by contaminating hay. Field studies were conducted in Idaho in 2021 and 2022 to evaluate the effect of weed control treatments on alfalfa forage accumulation, weed biomass, and nutritive value.

Melt Castable Derivatives of Pentaerythritol Tetranitrate

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 29, Issue 22, April 18, 2023., 2023
Energetic materials: In this work, the pentaerythritol backbone was modified with amine, nitramine and tetrazole functionalities leading to powerful melt castable pentaerythritol tetranitrate derivatives that outperform TNT. Exciting insights into the influence of these functionalities on mechanical sensitivities and melting behavior are observed and ...

Terminal Au−N and Au−O Units in Organometallic Frames

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 29, Issue 8, February 7, 2023., 2023
Landscape beyond the oxo‐wall. The terminal auronitrene and auroxyl species [(CF3)3AuN]− and [(CF3)3AuO]− are identified as local minima by calculation and experimentally detected by tandem mass spectrometry (MS2) in the gas phase. These open‐shell species defy the standard rules to assign oxidation states since the unpaired electrons are located on ...

Influence of Framework n(Si)/n(Al) Ratio on the Nature of Cu Species in Cu‐ZSM‐5 for NH3‐SCR‐DeNOx

open access: yesChemCatChem, Volume 14, Issue 18, September 20, 2022., 2022
Copper‐containing zeolite: Changes in the zeolite preparation temperature result in the variation in the framework n(Si)/n(Al) ratio, and thus, the nature of copper species in the Cu‐containing ZSM‐5. Activity and selectivity of catalysts in NH3‐SCR‐DeNOx drop due to the presence of aggregated copper species.

Nitrate losses and nitrous oxide emissions under contrasting tillage and cover crop management

open access: yesJournal of Environmental Quality, Volume 51, Issue 4, Page 683-695, July/August 2022., 2022
Abstract Agroecosystems in the upper Mississippi River Basin are highly productive but often contribute to deterioration of water quality and greenhouse gas emissions. Cover cropping and no‐till are conservation strategies implemented to reduce the environmental impact of these agroecosystems.

Tuning the Properties of 5‐Azido and 5‐Nitramino‐tetrazoles by Diverse Functionalization – General Concepts for Future Energetic Materials

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 28, Issue 36, June 27, 2022., 2022
Derivatization of 5‐azido and 5‐nitraminotetrazole with an azidoethyl, nitratoethyl or methyl group gives access to less acidic high explosives with versatile properties. Salt formation of the nitraminotetrazoles with nitrogen‐rich and metal cations was performed to achieve less acidity, lower vapor pressure and higher thermal stability.

Tolerance of common snook juveniles to acute nitrate
