Simultaneous nitrification and de-nitrification in MBR
Experiments have been carried out to get an understanding of the effect of DO, C/N ratio and pH on the performance of a bench scale membrane bioreactor (MBR) in simultaneous nitrification and de-nitrification. It was found that under the conditions of MLSS in the range of 8000–9000mg/L and temperature of water in the MBR of 24°C, influent COD and NH3-N

Inhibition of Nitrification by Root Exudates and Plant Materials fromBrachiaria humidicola
Nitrification inhibitors are synthetic or natural compounds highly specific in inhibiting ammonium oxidation to nitrate. Therefore, they are widely used in combination with ammonium fertilizers.

Effectiveness of Nitrification Inhibition on Various Species of Brachiaria Grass Rhizosphere
Nitrification has the potential to decrease the efficiency of nitrogen utilization by plants. The use of nitrifying inhibitory chemicals proved to be effective in controlling nitrification, but also affects beneficial soil microbes.

Nitrification and growth of autotrophic nitrifying bacteria and Thaumarchaeota in the coastal North Sea [PDF]
Nitrification and the associated growth of autotrophic nitrifiers, as well as the contributions of bacteria and Thaumarchaeota to total autotrophic C-fixation by nitrifiers were investigated in the Dutch coastal North Sea from October 2007 to March 2008.

Identification of nitrification inhibition in maize to mitigate soil nitrogen loss
Nitrogen dynamics in soil produce N2O emissions. To decrease N2O emissions and conserve N, recent studies have focused on chemicals derived from root exudates that inhibit nitrification.

Some Observations on “Nitrification” [PDF]
It is now a well-established fact that the ammonia, which is formed in the cultivated soil by the breaking down of nitrogenous organic matter through the action of bacteria and moulds, is itself converted by oxidation into nitrates. The latter process, “nitrification“ proper, is effected in two stages by two distinct species of bacteria, the one ...
