Nitrite–Catalase Interaction as an Important Element of Nitrite Toxicity

Biochemistry (Moscow), 2003
It was established that nitrite in the presence of chloride, bromide, and thiocyanate decreases the rate of hydrogen peroxide decomposition by catalase. The decrease was recorded by the permanganatometric method and by a method of dynamic calorimetry.

The Volatile Nitrites

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1979
AMYL nitrite was introduced into medical practice as a coronary vasodilator more than a century ago; for much of that time, it was a mainstay, along with nitroglycerin, for angina pectoris. At present it is not used much, having been displaced by the organic nitrates. However, amyl nitrite along with its six-carbon analog, isobutyl nitrite, has come on

Photometric determination of nitrite

Talanta, 1981
A new sensitive colour reaction for nitrite determination is presented. The method is based on the reaction of nitrite with p-aminobenzoic acid to form a diazonium ion, which is coupled with 8-hydroxyquinoline, in alkaline medium, to form a reddish-orange water-soluble azo dye.

Denitrification and nitrite reduction: Pseudomonas aeruginosa nitrite-reductase

Biochimie, 1984
Present knowledge of the different enzymatic steps of the denitrification chains in various bacteria, particularly Paracoccus denitrificans and Pseudomonas aeruginosa has been briefly reviewed. The question whether nitric oxide (NO), nitrous oxide (N2O) and other nitrogen derivatives are obligatory intermediates has been discussed.

Assay of Sodium Nitrite

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1965
The official U.S.P. assay for sodium nitrite which employs standard permanganate and standard oxalate solutions is compared with a new method using standard ceric sulfate solution. The proposed method is shown to be more accurate than the official method by comparison of the results with the absolute purity of the sodium nitrite determined by phase ...

Fluorimetric determination of nitrite

Talanta, 1993
A sensitive and rapid fluorimetric method for the determination of nitrite is described. The method is based on the reaction of nitrite with tryptophan to form a highly fluorescent compound in alkaline medium. The method has been applied in the determination of nitrite in water and food samples.
