Wharton's Jelly Mesenchymal Stromal Cell‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles Attenuate Intervertebral Disc Degeneration Under Inflammatory Stress in an In Vitro 3D Culture System

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 8, Issue 3, September 2025.
This study explores the therapeutic potential of extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from Wharton's Jelly mesenchymal stem cells in an in vitro 3D model of intervertebral disc degeneration under inflammatory stress. The treatment with WJ‐MSC‐EVs enhanced nucleus pulposus cell proliferation, viability, and extracellular matrix synthesis while reducing ...

Peroxide‐Driven Nitrogen Fixation Reactions for Energy Storage Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, Volume 15, Issue 32, August 26, 2025.
Sustainable ammonia synthesis from air as a hydrogen energy carrier and storage medium is demonstrated via an efficient dual‐step electrochemical approach at ultralow overpotential (−0.1 V vs. RHE). Atmospheric nitrogen is first oxidized to nitrate using in situ generated peroxide, then directly converts to ammonia on the same electrode, achieving ...

Dinitroacetylene: Can It be Made?

open access: yesPropellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics, Volume 50, Issue 4, April 2025.
With a predicted record‐high heat of formation, energy density, and outstanding performance as a rocket propellant, dinitroacetylene stretches the imagination for what is possible in terms of organic chemical explosives and monopropellants. In this study, we employ quantum chemical methods to assess the isolability and kinetic stability of this ...

Catalytic Metal Nanoparticles Embedded in Conductive Metal–Organic Frameworks for Chemiresistors: Highly Active and Conductive Porous Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 6, Issue 21, November 6, 2019., 2019
Ultra‐small and well‐dispersed metal nanoparticles (NPs) are embedded in the cavities of 2D conductive metal–organic frameworks (C‐MOFs), for the synthesis of highly active and porous conductive materials. The catalytic metal NPs‐loaded C‐MOFs exhibit dramatically improved NO2 sensing performance at room temperature, due to the high reactivity of ...

Benzofuroxans: A Possible +100 Years Old Misunderstanding?

open access: yesChemPhysChem, Volume 26, Issue 3, February 1, 2025.
Since 1912 benzofuraxans have been believed to be constituted by a benzene ring fused with a pentatomic ring (a N−O−N bridge) and a N+→O− bond. A careful analysis of the electronic and topological properties of strategic representatives of this class of compounds, compared to the corresponding benzofurazans, revealed a different interpretation ...

Photochemical reactions of metal nitrosyl complexes. Mechanisms of NO reactions with biologically relevant metal centers

open access: yesInternational Journal of Photoenergy, Volume 3, Issue 3, Page 161-169, 2001., 2001
The discoveries that nitric oxide (a.k.a. nitrogen monoxide) serves important roles in mammalian bioregulation and immunology have stimulated intense interest in the chemistry and biochemistry of NO and derivatives such as metal nitrosyl complexes. Also of interest are strategies to deliver NO to biological targets on demand. One such strategy would be

Cyanosis by methemoglobinemia in tadpoles of Cochranella granulosa (Anura: Centrolenidae)

open access: yesRevista de Biología Tropical, 2010
Tadpoles inhabit generally well oxygenated rivers and streams, nevertheless they were found in areas with limited oxygen availability inside the rivers.

A Bio‐Inspired Dendritic MoOx Electrocatalyst for Efficient Electrochemical Nitrate Reduction to Ammonia

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, Volume 14, Issue 37, October 4, 2024.
A bio‐inspired, reduced molybdenum oxide catalyst supported on a dendritic nickel foam core (MoOx/NiNF) is reported. The MoOx/NiNF electrocatalyst displays faradaic efficiencies (FE) of up to 99% for the reduction of nitrate to ammonia and maintains an average FE of ≈83% for over 3100 h of operation at −650 mA cm−2.
