Nitroblue-tetrazolium reduction test in pregnancy

We evaluated a spectrophotometric nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) reduction assay as a technique to quantitate experimental intestinal ischemic injury. NBT is a tetrazolium salt that is reduced by mitochondrial coenzymes to form a blue formazan dye which can be measured on a spectrophotometer.

Summary The capacity of leukocytes to reduce nitroblue tetrazolium dye during the phagocytosis of latex particles was studied in 25 patients with malnutrition, and in 15 age-matched control subjects. No difference was found in this activity between children in the study and control groups.
