Effects of Grazing Sheep and Mowing on Grassland Vegetation Community and Soil Microbial Activity under Different Levels of Nitrogen Deposition

open access: yesAgriculture, 2022
Increasing nitrogen deposition plays a critical role in the material circulation of grassland. Mowing and grazing sheep are important means of utilizing grassland.

Impacts and fate of experimentally enhanced nitrogen deposition on a British lowland heath

open access: yes, 1998
Between 1989 and 1996, nitrogen, in the form of (NH4)2SO4 (7.7 or 15.4 kg ha-1 year-1), was added to experimental plots of Calluna at a lowland dry heath in the south of England. Background deposition at this site was estimated at between 13-18 kg N ha-1

Importin 7 mediates the nuclear import of HIV‐1 integrase via a specific interacting interface

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
HIV‐1 integrase enables viral DNA integration into the host genome. By binding to the core domain of the host protein Importin 7 via its C‐terminal domain, the integrase is transported across the nuclear membrane into the nucleus, where integration of the viral genome into host DNA takes place. This translocation is a critical step for subsequent viral

Modelling effects of acid deposition and climate change on soil and run-off chemistry at Risdalsheia, Norway [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Elevated carbon dioxide levels, caused by anthropogenic emissions of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, and higher temperature may lead to increased plant growth and uptake to nitrogen, but increased temperature may lead to increased nitrogen ...

Structural and biochemical insights into the thermostable esterase Ta0887 from Thermoplasma acidophilum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, a novel esterase from the thermoacidophilic archaeon Thermoplasma acidophilum was biochemically and structurally characterized. Our results demonstrate that Ta0887 is a highly thermostable esterase that preferentially hydrolyzes p‐nitrophenyl hexanoate and possesses an α‐helical cap domain that likely contributes to its substrate ...

The C‐terminal domain of yeast Arginyltransferase1 is essential for its catalytic activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Arginyltransferase 1 (Ate1), a eukaryotic enzyme, catalyses arginylation, transferring arginine from tRNA‐Arg to the amino terminus of the target protein. Overexpression of Ate1 in yeast is lethal and is dependent on arginylation. This study elucidates how mutations in the cofactor‐binding and active site of Ate1 and truncation of its structural ...

Dry deposition of reduced nitrogen [PDF]

open access: yesTellus B: Chemical and Physical Meteorology, 1994
The paper reviews the results of measurements of ammonia (NH 3 ) exchange and considers the application of this information in approaches to modelling atmospheric NH 3 inputs to ecosystems. Ammonia dry deposition is seen to be highly dependent on land management and the magnitude of agricultural nitrogen inputs. Efficient dry deposition is observed to

Tree leaf biomarkers for atmospheric nitrogen deposition

open access: yes, 2004
The aim of this paper was to investigate the effects of nitrogen (N) deposition on tree N cycling and identify potential biomarkers forNdeposition. Between April and October 2002 extensive fieldwork was undertaken at Mardley Heath in Hertfordshire.

MARK4 enhances stress granule formation under oxidative stress and increases tau accumulation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
MARK4 (red dots) localizes to stress granules (orange dots) and promotes their formation under oxidative stress by modulating TIA1 (blue dots). MARK4 and TIA1 synergistically increase tau (purple) accumulation, and the reduction of the TIA1 ortholog suppresses neurodegeneration in a fly model.
