Enhancing nitrogen fixation

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1982
Not available – first paragraph follows: Production of ammonia from atmospheric nitrogen by the Rhizobium-legume symbiosis offers opportunities for genetic improvement of both Rhizobium bacteria and host legume.

Alginate‐Sludge Derived Biochar‐Calcium Hydrogel for Phosphate Removal and Slow‐Release Fertilizer: A Sustainable and Multifunctional Solution

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An alginate‐based biochar hydrogel (ABC‐hydrogel), derived from sewage sludge, is developed for simultaneous phosphate removal and agricultural reuse. It captures phosphorus from water and gradually releases it as fertilizer, enhancing lettuce growth.

Multi‐sensor and multi‐temporal high‐throughput phenotyping for monitoring and early detection of water‐limiting stress in soybean

open access: yesPlant Phenome Journal
Soybean (Glycine max [L.] Merr.) production is susceptible to biotic and abiotic stresses, exacerbated by extreme weather events. Water limiting stress, that is, drought, emerges as a significant risk for soybean production, underscoring the need for ...

Natural rhizobial diversity helps to reveal genes and QTLs associated with biological nitrogen fixation in common bean

open access: yesAIMS Microbiology, 2017
Common bean is one of the most important crops for human feed, and the most important legume for direct consumption by millions of people, especially in developing countries.

Input of nitrogen from N2 fixation to northern grasslands [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Forage legumes form N2-fixing symbioses with rhizobia and may thus make substantial contributions to the N pool in grasslands. However, to optimize their use as sources of N, it is important to elucidate the effects of management factors that influence ...

Modelling Thermal Halide Exchange of Perovskite Powders With and Without BMIMBF4 From an Interdiffusion Perspective

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Halide diffusion limits the stability of hybrid halide perovskites for optoelectronic applications and thus needs to be quantified. This study presents an effective interdiffusion model to obtain time‐dependent diffusion coefficients for I− and Br− diffusion from in situ X‐ray diffraction data during the formation of a solid solution MAPbIxBr3‐x from ...

Evaluation of seven peanut genotypes for nitrogen fixation and agronomic traits [PDF]

open access: yesSongklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology (SJST), 2005
Indirect measurement of the traits related to N2-fixation may be useful as selection criteria for high nitrogen fixation. The objectives of this study were to determine the association between parameters indicative of nitrogen fixation and agronomic ...

Distribution of nitrogen fixation and nitrogenase-like sequences amongst microbial genomes

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2012
Background The metabolic capacity for nitrogen fixation is known to be present in several prokaryotic species scattered across taxonomic groups. Experimental detection of nitrogen fixation in microbes requires species-specific conditions, making it ...
