Nitrogen uptake by tropical orchids

Environmental and Experimental Botany, 1993
Abstract The uptake of nitrate and ammonium by two terrestrial orchids ( Bromheadia finlaysonia and Cymbidium sinense ) and an epiphytic orchid ( Dendrobium “White Fairy”) in solution culture was studied. The rates of uptake of nitrate and ammonium were linear, with a higher uptake rate for ammonium. The rates of nitrate uptake for Cymbidium and

Nitrogen (N) Uptake

2015
Globally indigenous nitrogen in soil cannot meet the crop requirement at contemporary production levels. Synthetic nitrogenous fertilisers along with other nutrients have to be applied to sustain existing production and, in many countries, further increase crop production commensurate with their population growth.

Efficiency of nitrogen uptake by potatoes

American Potato Journal, 1983
White Rose potatoes were fertilized with isotopically labeled ammonium sulfate at rates of 67, 134, 202 and 270 kg N/ha to evaluate N uptake efficiency. All N application increased yields above the control, however the 3 higher N rates produced the same yields statistically.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and nitrogen uptake

Archives of Microbiology, 2010
Nitrogen (N) is among the most important macro-nutrients significantly affecting plant growth and yield production. Accordingly, N must be supplied adequately so that optimum amounts of yield are resulted. There are different ways of supplying N to the plant including the use of chemical and biological fertilization.

Nitrogen uptake and nitrification in the Changjiang estuary

Marine Environmental Research
Anthropogenic activities have collectively resulted in high loads of nutrients exported into the estuaries, significantly affecting the nitrogen (N) cycling. Yet nitrification and N uptake, the central processes of the N cycle, have rarely been reported simultaneously in the estuaries. Here we report on pelagic nitrification and uptake rates of ammonia

Nitrogen and Phosphorus Uptake and Utilization

2013
Developing nutrient efficient rice cultivars is an increasingly important objective as the continually increasing population worldwide needs to be fed from the decreasing arable land and declining natural resources. To deal with the demand, vast improvements in cultivars with higher yield potential per unit area (super rice for example) have being ...

Regulatory mechanisms of nitrogen (N) on cadmium (Cd) uptake and accumulation in plants: A review.

Science of the Total Environment, 2019
Cadmium (Cd) is a heavy metal that is toxic to plants and animals. Nitrogen (N), the most significant macro-nutrient and a common input for crop production, is often excessively applied than plants' demands by farmers to obtain more economic benefits ...

ƒ-Ratios calculated with and without urea uptake in nitrogen uptake by phytoplankton

Deep Sea Research Part I: Oceanographic Research Papers, 1995
Abstract Examination of data from literature showed that non-inclusion of urea uptake in nitrogen uptake by phytoplankton results in statistically significant overestimates off. The extent to which f was overestimated because of non-inclusion of urea uptake depended upon the ecosystem type and was 6, 17, 24, 42 and 55%,, respectively, in upwelling ...

Nitrogen uptake and allocation in the seagrass Amphibolis antarctica

Aquatic Botany, 1997
Abstract Ammonium acquisition and internal allocation of nitrogen in the seagrass Amphibolis antarctica ((Labill.) Sonder ex. Aschers.) were studied on freshly collected plants in laboratory experiments. The uptake kinetics were studied from the depletion of ammonium in split chamber experiments, while N uptake by entire plants and internal ...
