This study proposes a new methodology for producing metal matrix nanocomposites in the solid state. The process involves the plasma‐assisted thermochemical treatment of metallic alloy powders. As a proof‐of‐concept, TiN nanoparticles are synthesized directly on the surface of FeTi intermetallic powder particles, enabling the development of the ...

Wavelength dependence of nitrogen vacancy center charge cycling
Optically-active spin qubits in wide-bandgap semiconductors exist in several charge states, though typically only specific charge states exhibit desirable spin or photonic properties. An understanding of how interconversion between different charge states occurs is important for most applications seeking to employ such defects in quantum sensing and ...

Eddy-Current Imaging with Nitrogen-Vacancy Centers in Diamond [PDF]
We demonstrate microwave-free eddy-current imaging using nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond. By detecting the eddy-current induced magnetic field of conductive samples, we can distinguish between different materials and shapes and identify structural defects.

High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Ab initio theory of the nitrogen-vacancy center in diamond
The nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond is a solid-state defect qubit with favorable coherence time up to room temperature, which could be harnessed in several quantum-enhanced sensor and quantum communication applications, and has a potential in ...

Assignment of the NV0 575 nm zero-phonon line in diamond to a 2E-2A2 transition
The time-averaged emission spectrum of single nitrogen-vacancy defects in diamond gives zero-phonon lines of both the negative charge state at 637 nm (1.945 eV) and the neutral charge state at 575 nm (2.156 eV).

Statistical investigations on nitrogen-vacancy center creation
Quantum information technologies require networks of interacting defect bits. Color centers, especially the nitrogen vacancy (NV−) center in diamond, represent one promising avenue, toward the realisation of such devices. The most successful technique for creating NV− in diamond is ion implantation followed by annealing. Previous experiments have shown

A wood‐based magnetic and conductive material called Magwood (MW), capable of blocking almost 99.99% of electromagnetic waves (in the X‐band frequency range), is synthesized using a simple, solvent‐free process. MW is lightweight, resists water, and is flame‐retardant, making it a promising alternative for shielding electronics. The rapid proliferation

Theory of nuclear spin dephasing and relaxation by optically illuminated nitrogen-vacancy center
Dephasing and relaxation of the nuclear spins coupled to the nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center during optical initialization and readout is an important issue for various applications of this hybrid quantum register.

Multipulse Double-Quantum Magnetometry with Near-Surface Nitrogen-Vacancy Centers [PDF]
We discuss multipulse magnetometry that exploits all three magnetic sublevels of the S=1 nitrogen-vacancy center in diamond to achieve enhanced magnetic field sensitivity. Based on dual frequency microwave pulsing, the scheme works in arbitrary magnetic bias fields and is twice as sensitive to ac magnetic fields as conventional two-level magnetometry ...
