Cometabolism of Trihalomethanes by Nitrosomonas europaea [PDF]
ABSTRACT The ammonia-oxidizing bacterium Nitrosomonas europaea (ATCC 19718) was shown to degrade low concentrations (50 to 800 μg/liter) of the four trihalomethanes (trichloromethane [TCM], or chloroform; bromodichloromethane [BDCM]; dibromochloromethane [DBCM]; and tribromomethane [TBM], or bromoform ...

Effect of Organic Compounds on Nitrosomonas [PDF]
THE growth of nitrifying bacteria (Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter) is usually inhibited by comparatively low concentrations of soluble organic substances, particularly amino-compounds1–3. A rather exceptional resistance was shown by a strain of Nitrosomonas that was isolated from farmyard manure and in other respects appeared typical (oval rods, motile ...

Methane oxidation by Nitrosomonas europaea [PDF]
Methane inhibited NH4+ utilization by Nitrosomonas europaea with a Ki of 2mM. O2 consumption was not inhibited. In the absence of NH4+, or with hydrazine as reductant, methane caused nearly a doubling in the rate of O2 uptake. The stimulation was abolished by allylthiourea, a sensitive inhibitor of the oxidation of NH4+. Analysis revealed that methanol

Diversity of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria in relation to soil environment in Ebinur Lake Wetland
Ammonia oxidation is the first and rate-limiting step of nitrification and is carried out by ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB). Ebinur Lake Wetland, the most representative temperate arid zone wetland ecosystem in China, is the centre of oasis and ...

In this study, the effect of aerobic denitrification on nitrogen removal was investigated using two zero-discharge biofloc-based recirculating aquaculture systems with representative carbon-to-nitrogen (C/N) ratios of 15 (CN15) and 20 (CN20). Aquaculture
