The effects of N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide (NMMO) pretreatment on barley straw and forest residues were investigated for biogas production. The pretreatments were performed at 90°C with 85% NMMO for 3-30h. The best pretreatment conditions resulted in 100% improvement in methane yield during the subsequent digestion compared to that of the untreated ...

Graphene oxide/cellulose composite using NMMO monohydrate
Carbohydrate Polymers, 2011Abstract Graphene oxide (GO)/cellulose composite films were prepared by using an N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide (NMMO) monohydrate solvent. NMMO was an excellent dispersing agent for the GO as well as an environmentally friendly solvent for cellulose.

Dope dyeing of lyocell fiber with NMMO-based carbon black dispersion
Carbohydrate Polymers, 2017NMMO-based carbon black (CB) dispersion was prepared and its properties as well as its compatibility with lyocell spinning solution were further investigated. Modified lignosulfonate (SP) was verified to be the preeminent dispersant for the preparation of NMMO-based CB dispersion with mass ratio of SP to CB 20% and water to NMMO 13%.

Characterization of BAMO/NMMO Copolymers
Propellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics, 1994AbstractThe compositions and microstructures, thermolyses, and sensitivities of 3,3‐bis(azidomethyl)oxetane (BAMO) copolymers with 3‐nitratomethyl‐3‐methyloxetane (NMMO) were characterized. The molar ratios of monomers fed in the copolymerizations were: BAMO/NMMO = 8/2, 7/3, and 6/4. The observed compositions were 81/19, 68/32, and 60/40, respectively.

Degradation and regeneration of feather keratin in NMMO solution
Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2017Chicken feather, a potential source of keratin, is often disposed as waste material. Although some methods, i.e., hydrolysis, reduction, and oxidation, have been developed to isolate keratin for composites, it has been limited due to the rising environmental concerns.

3D bioprinting of cellulose with controlled porous structures from NMMO
Materials Letters, 2018Abstract In the present work, dissolved cellulose has been 3D bioprinted to produce complex structures with ordered interconnected pores. The process consists of the dissolution of dissolving pulps in N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide (NMMO), multilayered dispensing, water removal of NMMO and freeze-drying. 3D bioprinting of cellulose/NMMO solution at 70 °C

BAMO/NMMO Copolymer with Polyester Initiation
Propellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics, 1997AbstractIn order to improve of mechanical properties at low temperature region, 3,3‐bis(azidomethyl)oxetan (BAMO), 3‐nitratomethyl‐3‐methyloxetane (NMMO) and polyester (PE) copolymer were synthesized by using polyester initiator with boron trifluoride etherate.

Kinetics of Precipitation of Cellulose from Cellulose−NMMO−Water Solutions
Biomacromolecules, 2005The regeneration of a solid, crystallized cellulose solution in a N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide (NMMO)-water mixture was studied by measuring the diffusion coefficient of both the water uptake from the regenerating bath and the NMMO outflow to this bath. The diffusion coefficient of water going to the cellulose solution is about 10 times larger than the ...

Thermodynamic Interaction Parameters for the System Water/NMMO Hydrate
The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2008Vapor pressures of water were measured for aqueous solutions of N-methyl-morpholine N-oxide (NMMO) at 80, 90 and 100 degrees C. The Flory-Huggins interaction parameters, chi, calculated from these data as a function of phi, the volume fraction of NMMO, are negative at all concentrations; at low phi, they decrease by more than a factor of 2 as T is ...

Oxidation and structural changes in NMMO-regenerated cellulose films
Cellulose, 2016Carbonyl and carboxyl groups introduced by oxidative processes during production and purification of celluloses determine intra- and intermolecular interactions and thus application-related bulk and surface properties of cellulosic materials. We report a comprehensive approach to the quantification of carboxyl and carbonyl groups in cellulose films ...
