No-till seeding into standing stubble of a previous crop is required to provide a trap for snow that protects overwintering wheat from low temperature extremes experienced in most of western Canada. In this production system, the optimum winter wheat seeding date often conflicts with spring crop harvest.

No-Till Drill Design for Atrazine Treated Soils
Transactions of the ASAE, 1986A no-till cereal grain drill was designed to enable use of the herbicide atrazine at high application rates to control weeds in wheat. Modified hoe openers moved atrazine treated soil and weed seed from the row leaving a herbicide free zone in which wheat could germinate and grow. Atrazine was concentrated between the rows to control weeds.

Performance Evaluation of Spatially Modified No-Till Drill under Different Field Conditions
Journal of Agricultural Engineering (India), 2014A major problem in sowing wheat crop under no-tillage condition in combine harvested paddy fields is the frequent choking of no-till drill machine due to long loose paddy straw lying in the windrows. Effective residue management requires both straw and chaff to be finely chopped and evenly spread over the entire cutting width of combine.
