Predation on larvae of the noble crayfish, Astacus astacus L.
Aquaculture, 1990Abstract The predation by dragonfly larvae ( Aeschna grandis ) and adult female crayfish on second-stage young of the noble crayfish, Astacus astacus , was studied in aquarium experiments. Combinations of crayfish young with and without adult female crayfish, with and without shelter were made in 4×4 set-ups with dragonfly larvae and 4×2 without ...

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2014
Several reports of the European crayfish species carrying a latent infection of the crayfish plague (Aphanomyces astaci) have emerged and the discussion has focused especially on the lowered virulence of As-genotypes behind decreased mortality. The aim of this study was to compare the killing rate of different A.

Fusarium avenaceum causes burn spot disease syndrome in noble crayfish (Astacus astacus)
Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2013Burn spot disease has been causing epidemics both in the Estonian mainland and in Saaremaa Island in the threatened noble crayfish (Astacus astacus) stocks. To study the cause of the disease, we isolated several Fusarium spp. from Estonian noble crayfish (A. astacus) populations suffering from burn spot disease syndrome.

Diseases of Aquatic Organisms, 2013
The crayfish plague agent Aphanomyces astaci was isolated from 69 noble crayfish Astacus astacus samples in Finland between 1996 and 2006. All isolates were genotyped using randomly amplified polymorphic DNA-polymerase chain reaction (RAPD-PCR).

Abstract 48 novel tetranucleotide microsatellite loci were developed for the noble crayfish ( Astacus astacus ) using Illumina MiSeq next generation sequencing technology. It was demonstrated that 25 loci were polymorphic and 19 loci could be co-amplified in a single multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay and genotyped as a single panel on ...

Morphometric Characteristics of Noble Crayfish (Astacus astacus) in Croatia
2006Noble crayfish (Astacus astacus (Linnaeus, 1758)) is one of four native European crayfish species inhabiting Croatian freshwater habitats and it is protected by the Croatian law. It is naturally distributed in continental part of Croatia in the Drava-Danube and Sava River basins, forming both river and lake populations and it also occurs in the ...

Egg development and lifecycle timing in the noble crayfish (Astacus astacus)
Aquaculture, 1987Abstract Egg development time in Astacus astacus was strongly influenced by temperature. Five batches of eggs were subjected to different temperature regimes after approximately 600 degree days and, by increasing the temperature, the total number of degree days to hatching was reduced from 1900 to 1300.

Behavioural elements of the noble crayfish, Astacus astacus (Linnaeus, 1758)
Crustaceana, 2004Based on contemporary literature and original observations under laboratory conditions, this paper attempts to compile a first comprehensive ethogram for the noble crayfish, Astacus astacus . Sixty-six behavioural elements are described, belonging to 12 functional cycles. Supplementary proposals are welcome.
