Opinion and report of the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES) relating to an analysis of the health risks associated with exposure to caterpillars with stinging hairs and the development of management recommendations

open access: yesFood Risk Assess Europe, Volume 3, Issue 2, April 2025.
Abstract Several species of Lepidoptera with caterpillars bearing urticating hairs are increasing their range in metropolitan France from year to year, such as the pine processionary (Thaumetopoea pityocampa Denis et Schiffermüller 1775) whose presence was historically limited to the south of France, and which is gradually being observed in the north ...

Moths versus Bees: Contrasts in Habitat Preferences Across Barrens of the Northeastern USA

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 11, November 2024.
We investigated the response of bee vs. moth communities to abiotic and vegetation drivers in barrens across the Northeast USA. Bee and moth communities contrasted in their habitat preferences for abundance and species richness, but not for the Shannon‐Wiener Diversity Index. Our results suggest that barrens management for both closed and open canopies

DNA metabarcoding of light trap samples vs. morphological species identification

open access: yesEcological Entomology, Volume 49, Issue 2, Page 245-256, April 2024.
Five light trap samples of different complexities were subjected to COI metabarcode sequencing. Species detection rates of metabarcoding versus manual identification were compared between the samples and two different amplicons. Metabarcoding was able to detect between 46% and 69% of manually identified species.

Hiding in plain sight: Phylogenomics reveals a new branch on the Noctuoidea tree of life

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 49, Issue 2, Page 258-278, April 2024.
Using anchored hybrid enrichment phylogenomics plus available genomic and transcriptomic data, we provide a densely sampled phylogeny of Prominent Moths (Notodontidae). The phylogenomic resolution of up to 854 loci permits the recognition that the notodontid subfamily Scranciinae does not belong to Notodontidae, nor to any described family of moths ...
