Recurrent Nodular Goiter

2018
A 55-year-old man had undergone bilateral subtotal thyroidectomy due to multinodular goiter 30 years ago, and histopathological examination had revealed benign nodular goiter. The patient had been suffering from swelling in the neck and dyspnea for the last 15 years, and the symptoms got worsened by the time.

THE TREATMENT OF NODULAR GOITER

The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1952
THE clinical course of nodular goiter is varied. The thyroid nodule may remain unchanged for long periods of time; it may grow and exert pressure on neighboring structures; it may degenerate or be the site of hemorrhage; it may be neoplastic and infiltrate adjacent tissues or metastasize; rarely it may hyperfunction within itself, or, more commonly, be

[Giant nodular goiter].

Polski merkuriusz lekarski : organ Polskiego Towarzystwa Lekarskiego, 1998
The paper presents own experience in surgical treatment of nodular goitre with mass exceeding 1000 g. In the analysed material of 1180 strumectomies, three such cases were found. Preparation for surgery included administration of Lugol solution, and possibly anxiolytics.

Scintigraphic evaluation of nodular goiter

Seminars in Nuclear Medicine, 1971
The thyroid scintiscan is primarily a function test, and it must be correlated with the anatomical findings for proper interpretation. Thyroid nodules are classified as nonfunctioning ("cold"), functioning ("warm"), and autonomous ("hot"), a division which facilitates proper management. Additional scintigraphic studies may be required in some cases for

Molecular pathogenesis of nodular goiter

Langenbeck's Archives of Surgery, 2011
Familial clustering of goiters mostly with an autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance has repeatedly been reported. Moreover, other environmental and etiologic factors are likely to be involved in the development of euthyroid goiter. Therefore, a multifactorial etiology based on complex interactions of both genetic predisposition and the individuals'

THE EVOLUTION OF NODULAR GOITER

The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1953
SIMPLE goiter occurs sporadically all over the world and in the form of endemic goiter affects millions of people in every continent, as a recent World Health Organization conference1 so clearly showed. Simple goiter almost inevitably progresses to the nodular form, and thus a clear knowledge of how these nodules arise and what changes they may undergo

NODULAR GOITER WITH HYPERTHYROIDISM

Archives of Surgery, 1928
An examination of the changes in the thyroid gland of patients with exophthalmic goiter in whom a remission had been brought about by the administration of iodine led Rienhoff1to suspect that a large percentage of benign nodules in the thyroid gland are caused by involutional irregularities, and a further study2of microscopic sections from all the ...

STUDIES IN NODULAR GOITER

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1938
The relative frequency of nodular and of nonnodular thyroid glands in both goitrous and nongoitrous districts has been repeatedly studied in Europe.1The few such studies in this country2deal exclusively with material from goitrous districts. Apparently no such survey in an Americal nongoitrous district has ever been made.
