Investigating the Effect of Urban Traffic Noise Pollution on University Students\' Cognitive Performance: A Simulated Study

open access: yesJournal of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences, 2022
Background and purpose: Cognitive performance in workplace encompasses a wide range of work-related psychological activities. Meanwhile, personality traits as a mediating variable has a determining role in mental functions and occurrence of errors.

Residential green is associated with reduced annoyance to road traffic and railway noise but increased annoyance to aircraft noise exposure

open access: yesEnvironment International, 2020
Background: In recent years, residential green and availability of neighbourhood green spaces came into focus as a potential means to reduce transportation noise annoyance.

Entropy, non-ergodicity and non-Gaussian behaviour in ballistic transport

open access: yes, 2007
Ballistic transportation introduces new challenges in the thermodynamic properties of a gas of particles. For example, violation of mixing, ergodicity and of the fluctuation-dissipation theorem may occur, since all these processes are connected.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Valuation of aircraft noise by time of day: a comparison of two approaches [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper reports an innovative application of stated preference techniques to derive values of aircraft noise by time of day and day of week. Revealed preference techniques cannot provide such segmentations which would clearly be of use in policy ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Airport noise [PDF]

open access: yes
The problem of airport noise at several airports and air bases is detailed. Community reactions to the noise, steps taken to reduce jet engine noise, and the effect of airport use restrictions and curfews on air transportation are discussed.

Digital twins to accelerate target identification and drug development for immune‐mediated disorders

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Digital twins integrate patient‐derived molecular and clinical data into personalised computational models that simulate disease mechanisms. They enable rapid identification and validation of therapeutic targets, prediction of drug responses, and prioritisation of candidate interventions.

Nonlinear quantum transport and current noise

open access: yesAnnalen der Physik, 2000
Abstract We study nonequilibrium transport and noise in a genericdissipative tightbinding model. Within a real‐time path integral approach, we derive formally exact series expressions in the number of tunneling events for the noise valid for arbitrary bias, frequency and temperature.

Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,
