Noise perception and hearing protector use in metallurgical industries
Although hearing protectors are defined as a temporary solution, they are often widely employed as the only measure against noise exposure. However, it is also known that unless workers wear the hearing protector continuously, their effectiveness will be

Are contributions of emissions to ozone a matter of scale? [PDF]
Anthropogenic and natural emissions influence the tropospheric ozone budget, thereby affecting air quality and climate. To study the influence of different emission sources on the ozone budget, often source apportionment studies with a tagged tracer ...

In this paper, we examine the effects of correlated Gaussian noise on a two-dimensional neuronal network that is locally modeled by the Rulkov map. More precisely, we study the effects of the noise correlation on the variations of the mean firing rate ...

Noise-Induced Phase Space Transport in Two-Dimensional Hamiltonian Systems [PDF]
First passage time experiments were used to explore the effects of low amplitude noise as a source of accelerated phase space diffusion in two-dimensional Hamiltonian systems, and these effects were then compared with the effects of periodic driving. The

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

The effect of AM noise on correlation phase-noise measurements [PDF]
We analyze the phase-noise measurement methods in which correlation and averaging is used to reject the background noise of the instrument. All the known methods make use of a mixer, used either as a saturated phase detector or as a linear synchronous detector. Unfortunately, AM noise is taken in through the power-to-dc-offset conversion mechanism that

Finite size effects, super-and sub-poissonian noise in a nanotube connected to leads
The injection of electrons in the bulk of carbon nanotube which is connected to ideal Fermi liquid leads is considered. While the presence of the leads gives a cancellation of the noise cross-correlations, the auto-correlation noise has a Fano factor ...

Competition between noise and coupling in the induction of synchronisation. [PDF]
We apply a Fokker-Planck analysis to investigate the relative influences of coupling strength and noise on the synchronisation of two phase oscillators.

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
