Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

If high aircraft noise exposure increases heart attack risks, what do we do about it? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Is high aircraft noise exposure actually dangerous to people’s health? Is there a good way of identifying ‘significant danger’? What are the policy implications for government and airport operators of people being exposed to significant danger?

Determination and Applications of Environmental Costs at Different Sized Airports – Aircraft Noise and Engine Emissions. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
With the increasing trend of charging for externalities and the aim of encouraging the sustainable development of the air transport industry, there is a need to evaluate the social costs of these undesirable side effects, mainly aircraft noise and engine

Study on the impact of noise exposure on cognitive function

open access: yesGuangxi Yike Daxue xuebao
Noise, as one of the most common harmful environmental factors in our daily lives, can lead to hearing loss with prolonged exposure. More seriously, it can negatively affect cognitive function. The impact of noise exposure on cognitive abilities involves

Epidemiological characteristics of hearing loss associated with noise temporal structure among manufacturing workers

open access: yesFrontiers in Integrative Neuroscience, 2022
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the epidemiological characteristics of occupational noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) among manufacturing workers, and to provide evidence for diagnosing and preventing occupational hearing loss caused by ...

Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Noise Exposure and its health effects

open access: yes, 2021
Noise refers to the sound that is unwanted, irritant, unnecessary and harmful to human health. It is one of the most common sources of environmental exposures around the world and almost everyone experiences it every day. Throughout the human history, it

Night time aircraft noise exposure and children′s cognitive performance

open access: yesNoise and Health, 2010
Chronic aircraft noise exposure in children is associated with impairment of reading and long-term memory. Most studies have not differentiated between day or nighttime noise exposure.
