The noise figure of a m.e.s.f.e.t. is calculated as a function of drain current using the gradual channel approximation and the Shockley impedance-field technique. The results are conveniently presented as a single universal family of curves with no adjustable empirical factors.

Optical noise figure: theory and measurements
OFC 2001. Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibit. Technical Digest Postconference Edition (IEEE Cat. 01CH37171), 2001We examine the concept of optical noise figure in to two-port devices. Definitions of noise figure are discussed along with applications of noise figure to circuits incorporating cascades of amplifiers and other optical and optoelectronic devices.

Impact of Amplifier Noise Figure on Network Throughput
Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2016The impact of the amplifier noise figure (NF) on the optical network throughput is quantified from an information viewpoint. For every dB of NF decrease, throughput gains between 4% and 7% are reported.

Impact of Noise Figure on a Satellite Link Performance
IEEE Communications Letters, 2011Small satellite link performance analysis is critical for assessing the adequacy of a transmitter to successfully transfer data at the desired rate. This is especially obvious when considering highly adaptive small satellite systems that exhibit static and active/dynamic power requirements.

Noise figure test-set for simultaneous measurements of gain and noise figure of microwave devices
Proceedings of 8th Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference on Industrial Applications in Power Systems, Computer Science and Telecommunications (MELECON 96), 2002A simple method to characterize in term of noise figure and available gain both matched and mismatched devices is down. Comparison with conventional method is reported to show the validity of the method proposed that provides an effective way of employing commercial noise figure meters.

NOISE FIGURES, NOISE TEMPERATURES, AND SYSTEM SENSITIVITY
1961Abstract : The definitions of terms used in systems noise work are presented, as well as general techniques of describing noise power resulting from both the source and the excess noise added by the network under consideration. A unique feature presented is a unified development of 7 noise temperatures encountered in this field, with tables showing the

We perform noise figure calibrations on a noise measurement receiver using the following techniques: A “Y-factor” technique that uses two source impedance states (a characterized “excess” noise source and a low reflection room temperature termination) in both the calibration and the measurement, a “Vector Cold Noise (VCN)” technique that uses multiple ...

Matrix Representations of Noise Figures and Noise Figure Charts in Terms of Power Wave Variables
IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 1968The noise power, excess exchangeable noise figure, and excess transducer noise figure of a linear active two-port are represented by the power wave scattering transfer matrix. It follows that these noise figures are expressed as ratios of two Hermitian forms, and that their stationary values and the reflection coefficients at the input which yields ...

Noise figure (NF) is a commonly used system parameter that quantifies the degradation in the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) as the signal passes through a system. Different from the narrow band systems, the energy of the transmitted signal spread on wide band in the UWB (Ultra Wide Band) systems.
