Participatory noise mapping

2011
Participatory sensing allows for a person-centric approach to gathering environmental measurement data with, in principle, high gran- ularity in space and time. Here we report on a citizen science experiment for noise mapping a 1 km2 area in the city of Antwerp using NoiseTube, a participatory sensing framework for monitoring ambient noise.

Noise-resistant chaotic maps

Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 2002
Synchronized chaotic systems are highly vulnerable to noise added to the synchronizing signal. It was previously shown that chaotic circuits could be built that were less sensitive to this type of noise. In this work, simple chaotic maps are demonstrated that are also less sensitive to added noise.

Noise Zoning of the City Using Noise Mapping

2020 IEEE Conference of Russian Young Researchers in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EIConRus), 2020
Noise is one of the main factors that cause a harmful effect on the health of the population. The most convenient source of information on noise pollution is a noise map. It also serves as an effective tool for controlling and combating noise and monitoring pollution.

THE MILAN AGGLOMERATION STRATEGIC NOISE MAP

8th European Conference on Noise Control 2009, 2008
The aim of this paper is to describe the procedure used for the Milan agglomeration Strategic Noise Mapping, as defined by Environmental Noise Directive (2002/49/EC). City of Milan is a complex case study because of the presence of a plurality of sources: road traffic, railway traffic (also tram traffic) and aircraft noise (Linate airport).

Next generation aircraft noise-mapping

INTER-NOISE and NOISE-CON Congress and Conference Proceedings, 2021
At CSA, Centre for Sustainable Aviation at KTH Stockholm, several projects have run during the last 4 years. One outcome from this research is the SAFT-program for prediction of aircraft noise contours (noise-mapping) and time-histories in receiving points on ground.

Noise mapping using measured noise and GPS data

Applied Acoustics, 2007
In this paper, we introduce a system to easily produce a noise map using noise and GPS data measured simultaneously. The system consists of a sound level meter, a GPS receiver, a database program to manage the measured data, and a program to produce the noise map including a computer model of the target area.

Wireless Noise Surveillance - Development of Dynamic Noise Maps

SPE International Conference and Exhibition on Health, Safety, Security, Environment, and Social Responsibility, 2016
Abstract Noise is a major challenge in the petroleum industry. Prior to performing work in a noisy area, the noise map is the tool for assessing noise exposure when planning and performing work. The aim of this paper is to present an ongoing R&D project to develop a wireless noise monitoring system that provides real-time input to a ...

Empirical revision of noise mapping

Applied Acoustics, 2011
Abstract Following the Directive 2002/49/EC the European States shall apply the day–evening–night level, L den , among others, for revision of the strategic noise mapping. Definition of L den is based on A-weighted long term average sound levels, L d , L e , and L n , which represent 365 days, evenings, and nights of a typical ...

Environmental noise monitoring and mapping

2017 40th International Spring Seminar on Electronics Technology (ISSE), 2017
Decline of environmental noise and subsequent pollution are one of the most important purposes for citizens, scientists and public representatives nowadays. Many European legislative initiatives and studies deal with environmental noise monitoring. The enabling factor for this ongoing development is the availability of low-cost and low-power devices ...
