DTI denoising for data with low signal to noise ratios [PDF]
Low signal to noise ratio (SNR) experiments in diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) give key information about tracking and anisotropy, e. g., by measurements with small voxel sizes or with high b values.

From strategic noise maps to receiver-centric noise exposure sensitivity mapping
Road traffic is a major source of environmental noise pollution in urban areas. While strategic noise maps are widely used to identify the critical areas and propose mitigation plans, more specific tools are needed to evaluate the impact from traffic noise such as overall population exposure or anticipated impact from specific vehicles in varying ...

NoiseSPY: a real-time mobile phone platform for urban noise monitoring and mapping
In this paper we present the design, implementation, evaluation, and user experiences of the NoiseSpy application, our sound sensing system that turns the mobile phone into a low-cost data logger for monitoring environmental noise.

Map inference in the face of noise and disparity [PDF]
This paper describes a process for automatically inferring maps from large collections of opportunistically collected GPS traces. In this type of dataset, there is often a great disparity in terms of coverage. For example, a freeway may be represented by thousands of trips, whereas a residential road may only have a handful of observations ...

Spatial Smoothing for Diffusion Tensor Imaging with low Signal to Noise Ratios [PDF]
Though low signal to noise ratio (SNR) experiments in DTI give key information about tracking and anisotropy, e.g. by measurements with very small voxel sizes, due to the complicated impact of thermal noise such experiments are up to now seldom analysed.

Citizens’ exposure to predominant noise sources in agglomerations
Environmental noise directive requires Member States to produce and periodically update strategic noise maps for agglomerates in order to evaluate citizens’ noise exposure before the action plan.

Influence of meteorological conditions on noise dispersion in the Port of Thessaloniki
Although noise dispersion models are widely used for the assessment of noise levels across different domains, the influence of meteorological conditions on environmental noise is usually neglected even though modelling requirements often list ...

Logistic map driven by dichotomous noise [PDF]
Bifurcation diagrams and invariant densities are computed and interpreted for a logistic map driven by dichotomous noise. Two deterministic limits are analyzed. Changes in the stability of such a system, when varying the correlation time of the noise, are numerically studied.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Europe is acting to fight noise pollution. The Environmental Noise Directive (2002/49/EC) requires EU Member States to determine the exposure to environmental noise through strategic noise mapping, and elaborate action plans to reduce noise pollution ...
