A tutorial on noise-sensitivity.

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2011
About one in five people can be categorized as “noise-sensitive.” An individual’s degree of noise-sensitivity appears to be a personal characteristic, not an acquired attitude. Because environmental noise assessments within the United States are based on average response to noise, the existence of noise-sensitive people can be a challenge for land-use ...

The Development of Sensitivity to Biological Motion in Noise

Perception, 2006
We investigated developmental changes in sensitivity to biological motion by asking 6-year-olds, 9-year-olds, and adults (twenty-four in each group) to discriminate point-light biological motion displays depicting one of a variety of human movements from scrambled versions of the same displays.

Noise and limitations on sensitivity

2009
There are two major sources of noise in space. One was discovered in 1965 when Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson at Bell Laboratories in New Jersey were calibrating a microwave communication receiver. They were unable to identify a noise that was present at the same signal strength irrespective of the direction in which the antenna was pointed.

NOISE FIGURES, NOISE TEMPERATURES, AND SYSTEM SENSITIVITY

1961
Abstract : The definitions of terms used in systems noise work are presented, as well as general techniques of describing noise power resulting from both the source and the excess noise added by the network under consideration. A unique feature presented is a unified development of 7 noise temperatures encountered in this field, with tables showing the
