A nomogram is presented which enables the clinician easily to find the ratio of accommodative convergence to accommodation from routine clinical measurements. The only measurements needed are the near and distant heterophorias (or heterotropias) and the interpupillary distance.

Nomograms of the Goldman equation
Pflgers Archiv European Journal of Physiology, 1985Solutions of the Goldman equations for sodium and potassium ions are displayed in nomograms which allow one to determine which values of the variables in the equation (including the activity of the Na/K pump) are compatible with possible steady states of a cell.

Nomograms as predictive models
Seminars in Urologic Oncology, 2002Nomograms are valuable tools for estimating the likelihood of cancer being diagnosed, the pathologic features of a localized cancer, and the prognosis of a patient after treatment. Although the available nomograms are reasonably accurate, better predictive factors including additional clinical factors and new molecular analyses are needed to improve ...

World Journal of Urology, 1995
The treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia and the definition of bladder-outlet obstruction has preoccupied urologists and researchers in recent years. Bladder-outlet obstruction can be defined only by pressure-flow measurement. Various methods of analysis of pressure-flow data have been proposed.

Transactions of the Faculty of Actuaries, 1951
The use of graphical methods is familiar to all actuaries, but the particular form of graph known as a “Nomogram” probably is still little known to most members of our profession. This form of graph does not appear in the set Courses of Reading for the examinations of either the Faculty or the Institute of Actuaries, though the latter body does not now

Evidence for the usefulness of nomograms
Nature Clinical Practice Urology, 2007In the October 2005 issue ofNature Clinical Practice Urology, Stapleton and Pinnock raised concerns regarding the use of nomograms in clinical practice. In this Viewpoint, the authors provide further discussion of these concerns, and present an argument advocating the use of nomograms.

An Exchange Transfusion Nomogram
Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, 1963Introduction With the aid of the exchange transfusion nomogram of Figure 1, the physician can rapidly plan and analyze an exchange transfusion. By applying a straight edge to the nomogram, any of three essential parameters of the exchange can be determined quickly if the other two are known.

There are several papers in this section on various aspects of prostate cancer: predictive models, robotic radical prostatectomy in large glands, PSA distribution, bicalutamide and PIN, and finally the clinical characteristics of bladder cancer in patients previously treated with irradiation for prostate cancer.

The current resurgence in the use of nomograms as diagnostic and prognostic tools has legitimate roots in their effectiveness in facilitating communication between the doctor and patient. By returning to a more classical approach to nomography, graphical insights can further enlighten the patient beyond what can be achieved with current methods, while ...
