Validation of the Sudbury Vertigo Risk Score to risk stratify for a serious cause of vertigo

open access: yesAcademic Emergency Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction In 2022, nearly 0.5 million Canadians visited an emergency department (ED) for dizziness, accounting for over 3.5% of all ED visits. Of these patients, only 2%–5% received a serious diagnosis. The cost of ED and inpatient care for dizziness in Canada exceeds $200 million per year, of which neuroimaging accounts for a large ...

Effects of surgical management for gastrointestinal stromal tumor patients with liver metastasis on survival outcomes

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
PurposeTo investigate the effect of surgical resection on survival in gastrointestinal stromal tumors synchronous liver metastasis (GIST-SLM) and to develop clinically usable predictive models for overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS ...

Machine learning‐based classification of varicocoele grading: A promising approach for diagnosis and treatment optimization

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Varicocoele is a correctable cause of male infertility. Although physical examination is still being used in diagnosis and grading, it gives conflicting results when compared to ultrasonography‐based varicocoele grading. Objectives We aimed to develop a multi‐class machine learning model for the grading of varicocoeles based on ...

Clinical outcome of intrastromal corneal ring segment implantation with two different nomograms in keratoconus patients

open access: yesDelta Journal of Ophthalmology
Aim The aim of this study was to assess the clinical effects of Keraring implantation in patients with keratoconus (KC) using a newly created nomogram (NN) based on cone location and Q value compared with the manufacturer’s standard nomogram (SN ...

An Evaluation of Four Predictive Scores for New Onset Atrial Fibrillation After Cardiac Surgery in a Tertiary Cardiac Centre

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
Our paper shows that the four bedside predictive indices for POAF are not generalisable to our single‐centre tertiary cohort. Care should be taken in the utilisation of these scores in the clinical setting, as they may carry limited value in predicting POAF in patients undergoing cardiac surgery.

Development of a Nomogram to Predict the Risk for Acute Necrotizing Pancreatitis

open access: yesGut and Liver
Background/Aims: Necrotizing pancreatitis (NP) presents a more severe clinical trajectory and increased mortality compared to edematous pancreatitis. Prompt identification of NP is vital for patient prognosis. A risk prediction model for NP among Chinese

Combined Lyon and Milan Scores Predict Gerd Management Outcome Better Than Either Score Alone or Their Individual Components

open access: yesAlimentary Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
The Lyon and Milan scores outperformed AET and DeMeester score in predicting outcomes in GERD patients. When concordant, they provide optimal predictive accuracy, guiding escalation of therapy. ABSTRACT Background Confidence in gastro‐oesophageal reflux disease (GERD) diagnosis is crucial to improve outcomes from escalation of treatment. The Lyon score
