Abstract Hexamethylenetetramine (HMT) has been studied in long-term experiments for carcinogenicity in mice and rats. Mice of one outbred (CTM) and two inbred (C3Hf/Dp and SWR/Dp) strains were given 1% HMT in the drinking water for 60 wk. The CTM strain was also given 0·5% HMT for 60 wk and 5% HMT for 30 wk.
