Kikuyu grass clippings as a bioeconomy feedstock: influence of pyrolysis conditions on biochar properties and its effect on the growth of Swiss chard

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract The integration of urban organic waste streams into the bioeconomy is critical for advancing the water–food–energy nexus. Grass clippings, an abundant and underutilized municipal residue, represent a promising feedstock for producing value‐added materials.

Induction and Enhancement of Bacteriocin Production (Review)

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Conventionally, bacteriocins are produced by microorganisms on complex substrates, released as semi‐purified preparations or crude fermentates. These bacteriocin‐containing products often exhibit unsatisfactory purity, low active‐substance content, and high production costs, limiting their commercialization and use. This review aims to analyze

The effect of non-chemical weed control on soil biological properties in a spring oilseed rape crop [PDF]

open access: yesZemdirbyste-Agriculture, 2017
and in 2015 – in plots where thermal weed control was applied, also in plots where smothering was used (2.8 times). The activity of saccharase significantly 1.8 times increased in 2015 in smothering plots. Soil enzymes activity depended on the soil agrochemical properties.

A biophysical and economic evaluation of biological and chemical control methods for Solanum elaegnifolium (Silverleaf Nightshade) in the Limpopo province, South Africa [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Includes abstract.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 50-55).The results showed that the difference in the weed density was insignificant, indicating that biological and chemical control were both effective in the management of S. elaeagnifolium.

Kin discrimination in plants: overview and implications for population and community ecology

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Following the discovery of identity discrimination, particularly self and kin discrimination amongst plant competitors, research on interplant interactions has advanced significantly within plant physiology and evolutionary ecology. This review synthesizes current knowledge on how both self and kin discrimination influence plant growth ...
