Advances in Magnesium‐Based Thermoelectrics: A Critical Review

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Magnesium‐based thermoelectric materials have emerged as promising candidates for low‐to‐mid‐temperature energy conversion due to their abundance, low cost, and competitive performance. This review summarizes recent advances in Mg3X2, MgAgSb, and Mg2X systems, covering transport mechanisms, fabrication strategies, stability challenges, and device ...

Peptide nanofibers with dynamic instability through non-equilibrium biocatalytic assembly

open access: yes, 2013
We demonstrate supramolecular peptide nanofibers that display dynamic instability, i.e. they are formed by competing assembly and dis-assembly reactions, where assembly is favoured away from equilibrium.

Oppositely Charged Single Enzyme Nanogels Form Versatile Coacervates for Efficient Enzyme Cascade Catalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Oppositely charged single enzyme nanogels (SENs) phase‐separate into bi‐enzymatic coacervate microdroplets, acting as both scaffold and functional units. By tuning SEN ratios, these coacervates create specific microenvironments that enable selective small‐molecule enrichment and efficient intermediate diffusion.

Non-equilibrium control of biomolecular condensates

open access: yes
Biomolecular condensates are cellular organelles without a membrane, which have come into the scientific focus about 15 years ago. They are made from a mix of proteins and RNAs. It is hypothesized that they maintain their shape and function through liquid-liquid phase separation.

Free-convection condensation on single horizontal pin-fin tubes

open access: yes, 2011
PhDNew experimental data are reported for free-convection condensation of ethylene glycol and R-113 on three-dimensional pin-fin tubes. Effects of pin geometry and tube thermal conductivity (for copper, brass and bronze giving a mean range of 400, 120 ...

Engineering CO2 Reduction Pathways via Alloy‐Support Interactions in Li‐CO2 Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Alloy‐support interactions in RuCu/NC induce interfacial charge redistribution and shift d‐band centers, steering CO2 reduction from Li2CO3 to metastable Li2C2O4. This pathway engineering lowers the rate‐determining barrier and suppresses carbonate formation, enabling high discharge voltage (3.23 V) in Li‐CO2 batteries with reduced overpotential (0.50 ...

Entropy Assessment on Direct Contact Condensation of Subsonic Steam Jets in a Water Tank through Numerical Investigation

open access: yesEntropy, 2016
The present article analyzes the dissipation characteristics of the direct contact condensation (DCC) phenomenon that occurs when steam is injected into a water tank at a subsonic speed using a new modeling approach for the entropy generation over the ...

Non-equilibrium Condensation in the Actomyosin Cortex

open access: yes, 2020

Non-equilibrium condensation of water vapour in supersonic flows with shock waves

open access: yes, 2020
The fluid flow and heat and mass transfer in a supersonic separator are not understood well due to the complicated interaction of the supersonic flow, swirling flow, phase transition and shock waves.

Understanding Operando Water Management in Hydroxide‐Exchange‐Membrane Fuel Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Effective water management is vital for high‐performance hydroxide‐exchange‐membrane fuel cells. Using a custom water‐flux station, this study quantifies how membrane thickness, microporous layers, and operating conditions dictate internal water transport.
