Non-equilibrium thermodynamics beyond linearity: sliding friction
Nevertheless, sliding friction is frequent and it was the first irreversible process we were faced in the school, very rare effort has been aimed to develop its non-equilibrium thermodynamic theory if ever. The reason may be guessed as Coulomb’s (Amonton’

Entropy Principle and Recent Results in Non-Equilibrium Theories
We present the state of the art on the modern mathematical methods of exploiting the entropy principle in thermomechanics of continuous media. A survey of recent results and conceptual discussions of this topic in some well-known non-equilibrium theories

The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Dissipation in non-equilibrium spacetime thermodynamics
It has been recently realized [1, 2] that the thermodynamical derivation of the Einstein equation introduced by Jacobson [3] needs a generalization to a non-equilibrium thermodynamical setting. Here we show that the non-equilibrium character of spacetime thermodynamics – both in GR as well as in f(R) gravity – is generally related to non-local heat ...

Entropy production and fluctuation theorems for active matter [PDF]
Active biological systems reside far from equilibrium, dissipating heat even in their steady state, thus requiring an extension of conventional equilibrium thermodynamics and statistical mechanics.

The seizure process has been considered from the non-equilibrium thermodynamics and self-organization theory standpoints. It has been testified that, for the intensification of powder mix particles seizing with the substrate during spraying, it is ...

Hybrid materials enable high‐performance components but are challenging to process. This study explores an inductive heating concept with spray cooling for steel–aluminum specimens in a two‐step process including friction welding and cup backward extrusion.

Non-Equilibrium Evolutional Thermodynamics of Boundary Friction [PDF]
The general thermodynamic model of ultrathin lubricant film melting is proposed. The critical value of shear velocity, at which lubricant melts according to the shear melting mechanism, was found.

Entropy and Entropy Production in Multiscale Dynamics
Heat conduction is investigated on three levels: equilibrium, Fourier, and Cattaneo. The Fourier level is either the point of departure for investigating the approach to equilibrium or the final stage in the investigation of the approach from the ...

Thermal boundary resistance in semiconductors by non-equilibrium thermodynamics
We critically address the problem of predicting the thermal boundary resistance at the interface between two semiconductors by atomistic simulations. After reviewing the available models, lattice dynamics calculations and molecular dynamics simulation ...
