Concentration Levels of Essential and Non-essential Metals in Ethiopian Khat (Catha edulis Forsk)

Biological Trace Element Research, 2010
The levels of essential (Ca, Mg, Mn, Fe, Zn, Cr, Cu, and Co) and non-essential (Cd and Pb) metal in six different varieties of Ethiopian khat (Catha edulis Forsk, an evergreen stimulant plant) commonly consumed in the country and exported to the neighboring countries were determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry.

Essential and non-essential metals in three lowland rivers of temperate South America (Argentina): Distribution and accumulation.

Journal of Trace Elements in Medicine and Biology, 2022
BACKGROUND Geographic distribution of essential metals on earth is largely uneven. Therefore, regional specific approaches to assess metal contents in freshwater ecosystems are mandatory.

Interactions and toxicity of non-essential heavy metals (Cd, Pb and Hg): lessons from Drosophila melanogaster.

Current Opinion in Insect Science, 2022
Some heavy metals are essential in trace amounts, enhancing enzyme functioning and other intracellular molecules. Others are explicitly toxic at low concentrations, increasing the risk of organ-related toxicity.

RNAs' uracil quartet model with a non-essential metal ion

Chemical Communications, 2011
We have recently communicated the resemblance of 1-hexyluracil in the crystal state with a lipid bilayer (CrystEngComm, 2010, 12, 362-365). Treatment of this molecule with silver nitrate yields a model, using a non-essential metal ion, of a uracil quartet with geometric parameters comparable to those previously found in RNA strands.

Plant Regulation of Essential and Non-Essential Heavy Metals

The Journal of Applied Ecology, 1979
SUMMARY (1) Vegetation and soils were sampled along two traverses near Mineral, Virginia (U.S.A.), and analysed for concentrations of Cu, Zn, Ag, Cd and Pb. The concentrations of Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb in plants were lowest in leaves; concentrations of Cd and Pb increased with age of twigs. Quercus alba L.

Cytotoxic effects of silver nanoparticles and non-essential metals in murine macrophages

Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology
Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are widely used in nanotechnology products. However, the health risks associated with co-exposure to these emerging contaminants and environmental pollutants, such as non-essential metals, are poorly understood. The present study aimed to investigate the cytotoxicity and toxicological interaction of AgNPs (0.36 and 3.6 μg ...
