Inertial effects on non linear acoustic streaming

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2015
The effect of inertia on nonlinear streaming generated inside a cylindrical resonator where a mono-frequency standing wave is imposed, is investigated numerically using two codes: A code solving the full Navier-Stokes compressible equations, assuming that the flow is isentropic in order to exclude thermal effects, and a code solving the time-averaged ...

Non‐linearity in the cost‐effectiveness frontier

Health Economics, 2006
AbstractConventional cost‐effectiveness decision rules rely on the assumptions that all health care programmes are divisible and exhibit constant returns to scale for a homogeneous population; hence, the path between adjacent programmes on a cost‐effectiveness frontier must be linear. In this paper we build a framework to analyse non‐linear ‘expansion’

Non‐linear dynamical effects in semiconductor microcavities

physica status solidi (b), 2005
AbstractAn investigation of the parametric amplification and its coherent control in a semiconductor microcavity is presented. The time and angle resolved pump and probe experiments show that several picoseconds after pumping the polaritons are still coherent and parametric scattering is still going on.

Non-Linear Effects of Uncertainty

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2018
Recent empirical studies suggest that the negative effects of uncertainty shocks are stronger in recessions than during booms. In this study, I provide a theoretical mechanism that can explain this empirical observation. I start from the argument that the effect of uncertainty on investment depends on the degree of irreversibility. I then show that the

Generalized latent variable models with non‐linear effects

British Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, 2008
Until recently, item response models such as the factor analysis model for metric responses, the two‐parameter logistic model for binary responses and the multinomial model for nominal responses considered only the main effects of latent variables without allowing for interaction or polynomial latent variable effects.

Polarization Effects on the Non-Linearity of a Highly Non-Linear Fiber

Fiber and Integrated Optics, 2015
AbstractThe effective non-linear parameter of a highly non-linear optical fiber was measured using the four-wave mixing effect. A value of γ = 10.6 W–1/km was obtained for a small wavelength separation between pump and signal waves, whereas for a large wavelength separation, a value of = 8γ/9 = 9.4 W–1/km was found. This value corresponds to an average

Spin noise: Non-linear effects

2009
We recently focused research on the fundamentals of spin noise in NMR spectroscopy and systematic assessment of experimental spin noise phenomena. Quantification of spin noise amplitudes and understanding of the line shapes are complicated due to the effects of radiation damping. Only if radiation damping is quenched, e.g.

Quantum effects in non linear optics

2007 Quantum Electronics and Laser Science Conference, 2007
Optical non linear interactions changing the statistics of a light field are often counteracted by dissipative processes. Artificial structuring of the non linear medium can reduce dissipation and enhance the effect of the non linearity.

Non-Linear Effects of Viscoelasticity

2009
Now we are in a position to formulate a system of constitutive equations for polymer systems on the basis of the mesoscopic approach, described in the previous chapters, to investigate non-linear behaviour of polymeric liquids. In the first section, the known results for dilute polymer solutions are described.
