Investigation in the U.S.S.R. of non-linear phenomena in the ionosphere
Journal of Atmospheric and Terrestrial Physics, 1982Abstract Investigations of non-linear phenomena in the ionosphere modified by intense radio waves carried out during the past few years in the U.S.S.R. are reviewed. Among the observed phenomena are changes in the ionospheric ionizing effectiveness, the production of artificial defocussing by a lens mechanism, effects caused by striction, etc.

NON-LINEAR ELECTROKINETIC PHENOMENA I
Soil Science, 1968ELECTROKINETIC PHENOMENA OR A RELATIVE MOTION BETWEEN SOLID AND LIQUID PHASES ARE INTRINSICALLY CONNECTED WITH THE EXISTENCE OF AN ELECTRICAL DOUBLE LAYER AT THE PHASES INTERFACE. A MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS IS PRESENTED OF THE THEORY OF ELECTROKINETIC PHENOMENA. EXPERIMENTAL DATA ARE PRESENTED WHICH INDICATED NON-LINEAR FLOW EQUATIONS.

Non-linear phenomena in catastrophe focusings
IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium. 2001 Digest. Held in conjunction with: USNC/URSI National Radio Science Meeting (Cat. No.01CH37229), 2002The main purpose of the present work is to research the influence of the weak non-linearity of the refraction index in the electromagnetic wave propagation in the vicinity of the catastrophe type focusing. The problem with a specially constructed phase screen, which creates in uniform media with linear refraction index focusing of the type under ...

Non-linear phenomena in electrochemical systems
Journal of the Chemical Society, Faraday Transactions, 1998Many electrochemical systems are known to exhibit complex non-linear behaviour such as spontaneous oscillations of current or potential, complex and chaotic oscillations and associated bifurcation scenarios and spatial pattern formation when maintained far from thermodynamic equilibrium.

Polariton Effect in Non-Linear Acousto-Optical Phenomena
physica status solidi (b), 1984AbstractThe role of polariton intermediate states in non‐linear acousto‐optical phenomena is studied. The matrix elements of the interaction processes acoustic phonon + photon → photon + acoustic phonon, photon → photon + 2 acoustic phonons are derived. The contribution of the effective photon–exciton transition is taken into account in any order. Then

Searching for a theory of everything John Barrow [1] faces the age-old choice between atomism and holism. He opts for the former, but to avoid singularities and infinities he invokes string theory to define an atom as a one-dimensional object that wiggles in a void of many dimensions.

When describing ground-to-ground communication via reflection in the ionosphere one may simulate the ionosphere by a two-port network into which the transmitter introduces an input e.m.f. while the receiver shows the output of the system. Our considerations in the preceding Parts were restricted to linear systems. This approximation is useful and valid

Non-linear phenomena in continua
2010These lectures will consist of a sequence of problems, mainly from the theories of large elastic deformation and viscoelastic flow. In these theories, properties of materials are described by equations that are not linear. They are usually so badly nonlinear that it is just as well to regard the functions that appear in them as almost arbitrary.

Non-linear phenomena in tokamak plasmas
Reports on Progress in Physics, 1996A tokamak is the simplest magnetic configuration for the confinement of high temperature plasma bearing in mind its subsequent use for nuclear fusion reactors. A tokamak looks like a vacuum toroidal chamber with magnetic coils. This chamber is filled by hydrogen (or hydrogen isotopes) gas, at low pressure.

Concentration polarization of interface and non-linear electrokinetic phenomena
Advances in Colloid and Interface Science, 2010The review addresses the peculiarities of concentration polarization caused by an electric current passing through conducting and around nonconducting charged materials. The conditions of emergence of an induced space charge of large density and thickness behind an electrical double layer, leading to strong non-linearity of electroosmosis and ...
