Current research and latest developments on refractories used as ladle linings

open access: yes工程科学学报, 2019
Non-metallic inclusions significantly influence the properties of steels. Take heavy rail steel as an example, Al2O3 inclusions can become fatigue source under cyclic stress, resulting in the rupture of the steel.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Effect of ladle-lining materials on inclusion evolution in Al-killed steel during LF refining

open access: yesHigh Temperature Materials and Processes
The effect of lining materials (Al2O3 and Al2O3–MgO·Al2O3) of ladle on evolution of non-metallic inclusions in aluminum-killed (Al-killed) steel during ladle furnace refining without Ca treatment was investigated through industrial experiments.

Quantitative and Qualitative Evaluation of Non-Metallic Inclusions in High-Silicon Steel after Hot Rolling [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials
This paper presents an analysis of non-metallic inclusions occurring in high-silicon steels containing about 3% Si of terms of their type, volume fraction and morphology.

Study of the Formation of Lamellar Cracks. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In rolled sheets, non-metallic inclusions are distributed along the thickness of the sheet as narrow lines running parallel to the rolling direction. Such inclusions are the nuclei of lamellar cracks.

Macroscopic phase segregation in superconducting K0.73Fe1.67Se2 as seen by muon spin rotation and infrared spectroscopy

open access: yes, 2012
Using muon spin rotation (\muSR) and infrared spectroscopy we investigated the recently discovered superconductor K0.73Fe1.67Se2 with Tc = 32 K. We show that the combined data can be consistently described in terms of a macroscopically phase segregated ...

Plasmonically Enhanced Reflectance of Heat Radiation from Low-Bandgap Semiconductor Microinclusions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Increased reflectance from the inclusion of highly scattering particles at low volume fractions in an insulating dielectric offers a promising way to reduce radiative thermal losses at high temperatures.
