“Should one not ask God for more?”: the non-monotonicity of constitutional argumentation
Sravnitel noe konstitucionnoe obozrenie, 2023The decision-making process is often faced with uncertainty and a lack of necessary information. Therefore, decision makers sometimes have to limit their reasoning to the available data and replace unknown variables with certain assumptions. Accordingly, as new information becomes available, the findings can and should be revised. The premises on which

Knowledge Representation, Scientific Argumentation and Non-monotonic Logic
Models developed by the knowledge representation and reasoning community permit us to study defeasible inference based on argumentation and data. Scientific reasoning progresses by evaluating scientific hypotheses based on data and meta-evidence. Meta-evidence can be understood as arguments for discounting or even ignoring data or other meta-evidence ...Landes, Jürgen +2 more

From Logic Programming and Non-monotonic Reasoning to Computational Argumentation and Beyond
2017Argumentation has gained popularity in AI in recent years to support several activities and forms of reasoning. This talk will trace back the logic programming and non-monotonic reasoning origins of two well-known argumentation formalisms in AI (namely abstract argumentation and assumption-based argumentation).

From non-monotonic syntax-based entailment to preference-based argumentation
1995We briefly discuss and compare two frameworks for reasoning with inconsistent belief bases: argumentation systems, based on the construction and selection of acceptable arguments in favor of a conclusion, and syntax-based approaches to non-monotonic entailment, based on the selection of preferred consistent subbases.
