Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Investigating skewness to understand gene expression heterogeneity in large patient cohorts

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2019
Background Skewness is an under-utilized statistical measure that captures the degree of asymmetry in the distribution of any dataset. This study applied a new metric based on skewness to identify regulators or genes that have outlier expression in large

Non-normal abelian subalgebras

open access: yesTohoku Mathematical Journal, 1968
A \(W^*\)-subalgebra \(\mathcal A_0\) of a \(W^*\)-algebra \(\mathcal A\) is said to be normal in \(\mathcal A\) if \((\mathcal A'_0\cap \mathcal A)' \cap \mathcal A = \mathcal A_0\) (i.e., if \(\mathcal A_0\) has the double commutant property relative to \(\mathcal A)\).

Option Valuation with Conditional Heteroskedasticity and Non-Normality [PDF]

open access: yes
We provide results for the valuation of European style contingent claims for a large class of specifications of the underlying asset returns. Our valuation results obtain in a discrete time, infinite state-space setup using the no-arbitrage principle and

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Measuring Half-Lives Using A Non-Parametric Bootstrap Approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In this paper we extend the Murray and Papell (2002) study by using a non-parametric bootstrap approach which allows for non-normality, and focusing on quarterly real exchange rate in twenty OECD countries in the post-1973 floating period.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

"Tests for Multivariate Analysis of Variance in High Dimension Under Non-Normality" [PDF]

open access: yes
In this article, we consider the problem of testing the equality of mean vectors of dimension ρ of several groups with a common unknown non-singular covariance matrix Σ, based on N independent observation vectors where N may be less than the dimension ρ.
