A comparison of linear and non-linear calibrations for speaker recognition [PDF]
In recent work on both generative and discriminative score to log-likelihood-ratio calibration, it was shown that linear transforms give good accuracy only for a limited range of operating points.

A number of authors suggested that the impact of the macroeconomic factors on the incidence of the financial distress, and afterward in case of failure of companies. However, macroeconomic factors rarely, if ever, appear as variables in predictive models that seek to identify distress and failure; modellers generally suggest that the impact of ...

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Parametric Bootstrap Methods for Estimating Model Parameters of Non-homogeneous Gamma Process [PDF]
Non-Homogeneous Gamma Process (NHGP) is characterized by an arbitrary trend function and a gamma renewal distribution. In this paper, we estimate the confidence intervals of model parameters of NHGP via two parametric bootstrap methods: simulation-based ...

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Three-dimensional non-parametric method for limbus detection [PDF]
To present a novel non-parametric algorithm for detecting the position of the human eye limbus in three dimensions and a new dynamic method for measuring the full 360° visible iris boundary known as white-to-white distance along the eye horizontal line. The study included 88 participants aged 23 to 65 years (37.7±9.7), 47 females and 41 males.

Non-parametric Methods for Soil Moisture Retrieval from Satellite Remote Sensing Data
Satellite remote sensing observations have the potential for efficient and reliable mapping of spatial soil moisture distributions. However, soil moisture retrievals from active microwave remote sensing data are typically complex due to inherent ...
