Non-Parametric Estimation of a Smooth Regression Function

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Statistical Society Series B: Statistical Methodology, 1977
Summary This paper presents a new family of non-parametric estimators of a smooth regression function, which are shown to have theoretical advantages in small samples over some alternative estimators. The new estimator has practical computational advantages over spline functions, while its smoothing properties are very close to the ...

Preoperative circulating tumor cells integrated with imaging analysis for prognostic evaluation in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Detecting circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in blood before surgery may help predict outcomes in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Here, we show when combined with tumor size and lymph node involvement from routine imaging, CTC status identifies high‐risk patients with poorer survival—offering a simple, minimally invasive tool ...

Pharmacological chromatin remodeling enhances response to estrogen therapy in ER+ breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Estrogen therapy elicits clinical benefit in ~ 30% of patients with endocrine‐resistant estrogen receptor (ER)‐positive breast cancer. Based on findings that ER transcriptional activation underlies response to estrogen therapy, we tested the effects of epigenetic dysregulation via pharmacological inhibition of histone deacetylases (HDACi).

Regression Modeling for Spherical Data via Non-parametric and Least Square Methods

open access: yesپژوهش‌های ریاضی, 2019
Introduction Statistical analysis of the data on the Earth's surface was a favorite subject among many researchers. Such data can be related to animal's migration from a region to another position.

Age at death during the Covid-19 lockdown in French metropolitan regions: a non parametric quantile regression approach

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Background Lockdowns have been implemented to limit the number of hospitalisations and deaths during the first wave of 2019 coronavirus disease. These measures may have affected differently death characteristics, such age and sex.

An additive Gaussian process regression model for interpretable non-parametric analysis of longitudinal data

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Longitudinal data are common in biomedical research, but their analysis is often challenging. Here, the authors present an additive Gaussian process regression model specifically designed for statistical analysis of longitudinal experimental data.

Estimating individual tree growth with the k-nearest neighbour and k-Most Similar Neighbour methods

open access: yesSilva Fennica, 2001
The purpose of this study was to examine the use of non-parametric methods in estimating tree level growth models. In non-parametric methods the growth of a tree is predicted as a weighted average of the values of neighbouring observations.

Establishing an assay to evaluate d‐amino acid oxidase enzyme kinetics and inhibition using WST‐8 redox dye

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigated a novel WST‐8‐based assay for evaluating d‐Amino acid oxidase (DAO) inhibitors. We confirmed its effectiveness using known inhibitors and found that uremic toxins possess relatively weak inhibitory activity compared to existing drugs.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...
