Multiclass Diabetic Retinopathy Classification based on Low-Rank Adaptation

open access: yesCLEI Electronic Journal
Diabetic retinopathy is a vision impairment associated with diabetes mellitus, a common medical condition. Retinographic imaging analysis of retinal fundus images is the predominant method of diagnosing this eye complication.

Stage‐Associated Microglial Subpopulations and Dynamics in Vascular Pathogenesis of Oxygen‐Induced Retinopathy

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
In the oxygen‐induced retinopathy (OIR) mouse model, two distinct microglial subpopulations play opposing roles: highly glycolytic microglia (HGM) promote neovascular formation via Pkm2, while Mrc1/CD206‐positive phagocytosis‐associated microglia (PAM) facilitate its regression.

Cataract and diabetic retinopathy

open access: yesCommunity Eye Health Journal, 2011
When managing the cataract of a patient with diabetes, you should remember that cataract surgery may make diabetic retinopathy worse. Eyes with mild to moderate non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy at the time of surgery are considered less at risk ...

CGM‐derived average glucose is more strongly associated with microvascular complications than HbA1c in type 1 diabetes

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims To compare the associations of HbA1c and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM)‐derived average glucose with microvascular complications in adults with type 1 diabetes, and to assess the clinical utility and stability of metrics capturing glycation discordance. Materials and methods Observational assessment of 9023 paired measurements of CGM

Literature‐informed ensemble machine learning for three‐year diabetic kidney disease risk prediction in type 2 diabetes: Development, validation, and deployment of the PSMMC NephraRisk model

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) and diabetic nephropathy (DN) affect around 40% of diabetic patients but lack accurate risk prediction tools that include social determinants and demographic complexity. We developed and validated an ensemble machine learning model for three‐year DKD/DN risk prediction with deployment readiness ...

Efficacy and safety of combining empagliflozin in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus uncontrolled with metformin and sitagliptin: A randomised, double‐blind, multicentre, therapeutic confirmatory phase 3 clinical trial

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
Abstract Aim This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of empagliflozin 10 and 25 mg compared to placebo as add‐on treatment for people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) uncontrolled after ≥8 weeks of treatment with metformin and sitagliptin. Materials and Methods A randomised, double‐blind, multicentre, therapeutic confirmatory, phase 3 clinical
