Non-restrictive visual respiration monitoring
Proceedings 15th International Conference on Pattern Recognition. ICPR-2000, 2002We have developed a visual sensing system that monitors respiration for 24 hours non-restrictively. The principle of the system is inter-image subtraction. Compared with conventional methods, the system has advantages which make it suitable for a long-term monitoring: (1) patients experience no physiological burden during sleep, (2) no manual operation

Non-restricted measurement of walking distance
SMC 2000 Conference Proceedings. 2000 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man and Cybernetics. 'Cybernetics Evolving to Systems, Humans, Organizations, and their Complex Interactions' (Cat. No.00CH37166), 2002Vertical walking distance is discussed. The horizontal distance is estimated by using the three dimensional acceleration of the subject's toe. Considering the movement of the foot, it is assumed that only the pitch angle of the foot changes and that the velocity of the foot is never negative.
