Multimodal Mechanical Testing of Additively Manufactured Ti6Al4V Lattice Structures: Compression, Bending, and Fatigue

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this experimental study, the mechanical properties of additively manufactured Ti‐6Al‐4V lattice structures of different geometries are characterized using compression, four point bending and fatigue testing. While TPMS designs show superior fatigue resistance, SplitP and Honeycomb lattice structures combine high stiffness and strength. The resulting

Optimal trajectories in $L^1$ and under $L^1$ penalizations

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Mathématique
Motivated by a MFG model where the trajectories of the agents are piecewise constants and agents pay for the number of jumps, we study a variational problem for curves of measures where the cost includes the length of the curve measures with the $L^1 ...

Laser Metal Deposition of Aluminum Alloys 7075 and 5083 with the Addition of Volatile Alloying Elements through Powder Blending

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser metal deposition of aluminum alloys EN AW‐7075 and EN AW‐5083, using powder blending to compensate zinc and magnesium evaporation. In situ alloying and ex situ alloying with ZnAl12 and AZ91 preserve near‐standard compositions and improve mechanical properties.

PBF‐LB/M of Ti‐6Al‐4V: High‐Pressure Solution Treatment and Aging for Applications in a Sustainable Aerospace

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing (AM) allows great geometric freedom for lightweight components. As parts are progressively optimized exploiting potentials in AM leading in smaller material cross sections, high pressure solution treating and aging (STA) treatments show an enormous potential for strongly improving material properties.

A Second Examination of Trigonometric Step Sizes and Their Impact on Warm Restart SGD for Non-Smooth and Non-Convex Functions

open access: yesMathematics
This paper presents a second examination of trigonometric step sizes and their impact on Warm Restart Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD), an essential optimization technique in deep learning. Building on prior work with cosine-based step sizes, this study

Inertial Block Proximal Methods for Non-Convex Non-Smooth Optimization

open access: yes, 2019
We propose inertial versions of block coordinate descent methods for solving non-convex non-smooth composite optimization problems. Our methods possess three main advantages compared to current state-of-the-art accelerated first-order methods: (1) they allow using two different extrapolation points to evaluate the gradients and to add the inertial ...

Laser Metal Powder Deposition of Titanium Microalloyed HSLA Steel FeC0.12Si0.25Mn1.3

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the additive manufacturing of titanium‐doped high‐strength low‐alloy (HSLA) steel via laser metal deposition. It reveals distinct process‐structure relationships for elemental powder blends compared to prealloyed feedstocks.

Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

Piezoresistive Monitoring of Carbon Nanomaterial‐Reinforced Epoxy Composites Under Cyclic and Fatigue Loading: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Carbon nanomaterial‐reinforced epoxy composites exhibit pronounced piezoresistive behavior, enabling intrinsic damage sensing under cyclic and fatigue loading. This review critically compares carbon nanotube and graphene systems, correlating filler content, percolation threshold, and gauge factor with sensing stability and damage evolution.
