Cholesterol turnover, synthesis, and retention in hypercholesterolemic growing swine

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1972
Studies of the interaction of cholesterol absorption, excretion, synthesis, and retention were carried out with growing swine through the application of sterol and isotopic balance procedures to a non-steady state situation. The animals were fed either a

Dynamics of photosynthetic induction and relaxation within the canopy of rice and two wild relatives

open access: yesFood and Energy Security, 2021
Wild rice species are a source of genetic material for improving cultivated rice (Oryza sativa) and a means to understand its evolutionary history.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Non-equilibrium steady states in quantum critical systems with Lifshitz scaling

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2019
We study out-of-equilibrium energy transport in a quantum critical fluid with Lifshitz scaling symmetry following a local quench between two semi-infinite fluid reservoirs.

Non-equilibrium spin-boson model: counting statistics and the heat exchange fluctuation theorem

open access: yes, 2011
We focus on the non-equilibrium two-bath spin-boson model, a toy model for examining quantum thermal transport in many-body open systems. Describing the dynamics within the NIBA equations, applicable, e.g., in the strong system-bath coupling limit and/or

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Steady-state Simulation of Non-isothermal Gas Pipeline

open access: yesShiyou jixie, 2018
To improve the accuracy of the steady-state simulation of natural gas pipeline, the change of pipeline temperature is considered. The energy equation is introduced to conduct the steady-state simulation of the gas pipeline by using the section ...

On the dependence of the existence of the positive steady states on the rate coefficients for deficiency-one mass action systems: single linkage class

open access: yes, 2013
The Deficiency-One Theorem states that there exists a unique positive steady state in each positive stoichiometric class for weakly reversible deficiency-one mass action systems with one linkage class (regardless of the values of the rate coefficients ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Thermodynamic relations in a driven lattice gas: numerical exprements

open access: yes, 2003
We explore thermodynamic relations in non-equilibrium steady states with numerical experiments on a driven lattice gas. After operationally defining the pressure and chemical potential in the driven lattice gas, we confirm numerically the validity of the
