Dielectric measurements using non-uniform electric field (dielectrophoretic) effects
Journal of Physics E: Scientific Instruments, 1977A method of determining the dielectric properties of materials using the polarisation force exerted by a special (isomotive) field configuration is described. The technique allows for the permittivity, and in some instances the conductivity, to be determined as a function of frequency.

Silicon dioxide degradation in strongly non-uniform electric field
2017 IEEE International Integrated Reliability Workshop (IIRW), 2017The new experimental evidence of field-induced trap generation in the tunnel oxide of SuperFlash® memory cells has been presented. It was shown that the negative voltage stress generates the highest local electric field in the oxide close to the floating gate tip.

Phase separation dynamics of simple liquids in non-uniform electric fields
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2014Spatially non-uniform electric fields can phase separate initially homogeneous mixtures of liquids. Here, we investigate the dynamics of phase separation using a modified Cahn-Hilliard equation and find three kinetically distinct regimes in the phase diagram: (1) discontinuous and (2) continuous interface formation kinetics and (3) a metastable state ...

The Movement of Molecules in Non-Uniform Electric Fields
Australian Journal of Chemistry, 1961The motion of polar molecules as solute in a non-polar solvent, under the action of a non-uniform electric field, has received little attention. The theory of such motion has been developed and an experimental concentration separation of 25% achieved between p-nitroaniline and carbon tetrachloride from solution.

Effect of non-uniform electric fields on drift instabilities
Plasma Physics, 1970A general equation describing drift instabilities in a low beta plasma, in the presence of non-uniform electric fields perpendicular to the magnetic field, is derived using a guiding centre fluid picture for the ions and the drift kinetic equation with Krook-like collision term for the electrons.

Abstract In this study, we present the methods of the particle separation by employing electrokinetic phenomena (dielectrophoresis (DEP) and traveling-wave electroosmosis (TWEO)) and the inclined gravity. The methods can separate particles of same sign DEP. However, it is very difficult to separate particles on a plane electrode.

Non-Uniform Axial Electric Field in Argon Glow Discharge Plasma
Chinese Physics Letters, 2006The non-uniform argon dc glow discharge plasma system has been constructed in a very special design to investigate the effects of variable tube radius on plasma parameters. By using isolated computer controlled three couples of a double probe (TCDP) system, the electron temperature, electron density, the reduced electric field, and electron drift ...

Examination of Kerr effects of non-uniform electric fields
1982 IEEE International Conference on Electrical Insulation, 1982The Kerr effect has been used for many years to study space charge variation and make electrical measurements, Measurements are normally made with two parallel plates surrounded with nitrobenzen, or other suitable Kerr liquid. The plate to separatien size ratio is normally kept large to assure uniform fields for measurement.

Electrical breakdown studies of pressurised nitrogen in non uniform fields
The European Physical Journal Applied Physics, 2001The aim of the present work is to provide data to understand better and quantify the dielectric strength of pure compressed N 2 (1 P γ -ray irradiated N 2 and that of the surface roughness of the HV electrode. In negative polarity, the free electrons are provided from the cathode whereas they are provided from the gas under positive polarity ...

Streamer development mechanism under non-uniform electric field in air
2012 International Conference on High Voltage Engineering and Application, 2012We discussed the development mechanism of the streamer channel leading to breakdown in a short air gap, by using an ultra-high speed measuring system. We clarified that the initiation of the secondary streamer leading to breakdown is attributed to an electron injection from the grounded plane electrode to the residual channel made by the primary ...
