A task-based comparison of linguistic and semantic document retrieval methods in the medical domain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Text-based and semantics-based methods are both studied intensively as methods for document retrieval. In order to gain insight in the respective merits of these two approaches, we have performed a controlled experiment where we executed a real-life task

Unique Case of a Large Indolent Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma: Time to Reconsider the Medullary Thyroid Adenoma Entity?

open access: yesEuropean Thyroid Journal, 2018
Background: Medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) is a rare neuroendocrine cancer originating from parafollicular, calcitonin (Ctn)-producing C-cells. Prognosis correlates with primary tumor stage and Ctn levels.

Fabrication of Multifunctional FeSi Gyroid Lattice Composites via Additive Manufacturing and Polymer Infiltration

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 3, 4 February 2026.
A two‐step approach combining laser powder bed fusion of FeSi electrical steel with Bakelite infiltration enables the fabrication of multifunctional gyroid lattice composites. The resulting structures exhibit high strength, magnetic anisotropy, and complete polymer infiltration, demonstrating a simple and scalable route toward lightweight, mechanically

Betulinic Acid Eradicates Implant‐Associated Infections by Disrupting the S. aureus Biofilm Matrix and Potentiating Host Immune Clearance

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 19, Issue 1, January 2026.
Betulinic acid reduces infection by Staphylococcus aureus biofilms on implants by inhibiting their formation and adhesion, decreasing EPS and eDNA formation and enhancing immune clearance. Simultaneously, it reduces skin tissue inflammation, enhances type I collagen production, and promotes wound healing.

Preliminary Establishment of a Method and System for Detecting Neural Tumor Boundaries Based on Optical Coherence Tomography

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 6, Issue 12, December 2025.
This diagram illustrates the stepwise workflow involved in the development and application of the intraoperative swept‐source OCT system for brain tumor detection. The process begins with the creation of the OCT system, followed by data collection on light attenuation values from brain tumors and their boundaries.
