A Nonlinear Analysis Formulation for Bend Stiffeners

Journal of Ship Research, 2007
Bend stiffeners are polymeric structures with a conical shape designed to limit the curvature of flexible risers and umbilical cables at their uppermost connections, protecting them against overbending and from accumulation of fatigue damage. Thus, they are of vital importance to deep water oil and gas production systems.

Reliability of Nonlinear Wood Composites in Bending

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1991
Existing techniques of structural analysis for nonlinear composite wood systems under bending/compression loads are combined with probability-based concepts in evaluating typical wall types of current construction. Material behavior is bilinear: nailed joints exceed the proportional limit first, followed by framing members. Stochastic variables include

Nonlinear bending of beams with concentrated loads

Journal of the Franklin Institute, 1968
Abstract A simple numerical method is proposed for analyzing nonlinear bending of beams. The success of the application of this method to the nonlinear problems is demonstrated by two examples: (1) a cantilever beam with a concentrated load at the free end, and (2) a simply supported beam subjected to a nonsymmetrical load. The results are checked by

Nonlinear bending of circular sandwich plates

Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 1981
Fundamental equations and boundary conditions of nonlinear axisymmetrical bending theory for circular sandwich plates with a soft core are derived by means of variational methods. Especially in the case of very thin faces, the preceding fundamental equations and boundary conditions are considerably simplified.

Nonlinear bending of bimodular-material plates

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1983
Abstract The paper presents finite element results for geometrically nonlinear bending of fiber-reinforced, single-layer and two-layer cross-ply rectangular plates constructed of materials which have linear elastic properties in tension and compression that are different.

Nonlinear bending vibrations of a rotating rod

Journal of Machinery Manufacture and Reliability, 2008
The vibrations of a rod with a circular cross section revolving around its axis with immovable supports in the longitudinal direction are examined. A harmonic load orthogonal to the longitudinal axis and located in a plane rotating jointly with it acts on the rod. The geometrical nonlinearity caused by medial line length variation is taken into account.

Nonlinear Bending of a Stress Corrosion Specimen

Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1966
This paper presents an analysis of the postbuckling behavior of an initially straight plate strip of variable flexural rigidity whose ends are subjected to opposing “axial” loads. Bending action takes place only in the center section of the strip, since the symmetric end portions are considered to be rigid. Pertinent postbuckling load-deflection curves

Large deflection geometrically nonlinear bending of sandwich beams with flexible core and nanocomposite face sheets reinforced by nonuniformly distributed graphene platelets

Journal of Sandwich Structures and Materials, 2019
This study investigates the nonlinear bending response of a novel class of sandwich beams with flexible core and face sheets reinforced with graphene platelets that are functionally graded distributed through the thickness.

Nonlinear free bending vibrations of plates

Computers & Structures, 1985
A general solution for the Helmholtz differential equations is obtained in the complex domain and applied to the nonlinear, free, bending vibrations of plates. The analysis is based on the decoupled nonlinear von Kármán field equations by Berger assumption for the large deformations of plates.
