On the coefficient of nonlinearity β in nonlinear acoustics

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1988
An analysis valid to second order in the acoustic variables is used to investigate the origin and form of the coefficient of nonlinearity β. Two cases are considered. First, for progressive plane waves, the well-known formula is β=1+B/2A, where B/2A is the coefficient of the quadratic term in the isentropic pressure–density relation.

Nonlinear Burnett coefficients

Physical Review A, 1988
We derive exact equilibrium fluctuation expressions for the nonlinear Burnett coefficients for the electrical conductivity of a fluid. The Burnett coefficients define a Taylor-series expansion of the conductivity in powers of the electrical current density.

The relative signs of the nonlinear coefficients of KTP

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe, 1996
Various authors have measured the values of the nonlinear optical d-coefficients of KTP and also tried to give an answer about the relative signs of these coefficients. We want to point out that, in our opinion all the signs are the same.

Magnitude of the nonlinear-optical coefficients of KTiOPO_4

Optics Letters, 1992
The magnitude of the nonlinear-optical coefficients of KTiOPO4 are measured relative to those of quartz at 0.88 μm. When we use for quartz d11 = 0.308 pm/V at 0.88 μm (which corresponds to 0.30 pm/V at 1.06 μm), the following results (in pm/V) are obtained for KTiOPO4 (at 0.88 μm): d15 = 2.04, d24 = 3.92, d31 = 2.76, d32 = 4.74, and d33 = 18.5.

Nonlinear directional coupler with variable coupling coefficient and variable nonlinear refractive index coefficient

Optics Communications, 2005
In this paper, we report on the study of the coupled mode equations for nonlinear directional coupler (NLDC) in which both linear coupling coefficient and nonlinear refractive index coefficient are functions of propagation distance. We show, for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, that the equations for the general case can be transformed to ...

Identification of nonlinear piezoelectric coefficients

Journal of Applied Physics, 2018
An identification scheme that exploits the vibration response and generated voltage of an energy harvester is proposed to estimate parameters representing nonlinear piezoelectric coefficients. We develop the governing equations of a cantilever beam with tip mass and a piezoelectric layer using the generalized Hamilton's principle and by accounting for ...

Ultrasound imaging of the coefficient of nonlinearity

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2015
Cardiac ablation (CA) is increasingly used to treat atrial fibrillation. However, long-term success is relatively low, and the procedure carries serious risks. To this end, we are developing a β (coefficient of nonlinearity) imaging method that may be employed to perform both tissue characterization and real time temperature estimation to respectively ...

Nonlinear piezoresistance coefficients of semiconductors

Journal of Applied Physics, 2019
The inconsistency of symmetry relationships in nonlinear piezoresistance coefficients, which is a long-standing puzzle, is resolved by taking into account the complex relations between piezoresistance coefficients and piezoconductance coefficients.
